Confessionals

I go to confession at one of the parishes in my city, yes we actually have two in a very small city go figure. Anyway I have to stand 10-15 feet back so I do not hear the person in front of me confessing their sins. On top of that the priest talks realy loud.

I should ad this to the "Annoying Catholic"Thread

Uhh... no. We have to stand back a-ways too. Oh, and it's best not to pick a pew to do your penance in that's too close to the confessional either.

Our church has fancy confessionals that basically have their own ventilation system. Unless the priest is especially loud, you really can't hear anything. People stand about 10 feet away anyways.

Oh, at my school the confessional is a tiny little office that is bare except for a chair and a kneller with a green piece of fabric/curtain separating them. You have to stand far away from it too, though.

Our confessionals are old-fashioned solid oak, so they are pretty sound proof...except for one priest who talks really loudly

AT my Parish, we have a Confession room in the Chapel... pretty sound proof... but if we have a Penence Service... well, the Priests are stationed all over the church in chairs... No real confessionals... All we have is that one room that is there so people don't have to look at the priest for confession... other than that, it is face to face... out in the middle of the church and lines are amde to wait at least 10 feet away... but we have quiet Priests... and usually there is "quiet" music going...

We go to our Cathedral with old style screens/kneelers and the Priest is in the other room. They are pretty sound proof and folks wait in pews about 15 ft away......... we are blessed.

I went to a holy hour for Divine Mercy Sunday at a local church in my college town which is a really traditional looking church. They have the confessionals where there is a door for the priest and two curtains on either side for the people to go in and kneel. I can't imagine they were sound proof. I was too scared to go. I went to confession later in the day at my Newman Center where confession takes place in the priests office.

The place where I generally go is soundproof, but at another parish I sometimes attend the confessional is only separated off by a cloth curtain, and it's right at the back of the sanctuary, and the priest hears confessions right before Mass. Not exactly my idea of confidential ... but apparently it works for some people.

At my parish in GR the confessional is fairly sound proof. The line starts next to the door and I've never heard anything. Here in Steubie though we have confession 4 nights a week and with about 2,200 students coming the friars are scattered around the chapel usually seperated by about 20 feet or so. Everyone is quiet enough that you don't hear any confessions.

Our confessional is a room off of the chapel. It's soundproof. However, last weekend there was a wedding that ran long and our one and only priest had to run from the wedding (he was already 30 minutes late), into the confessional. One of the other priests (there were FIVE priests at this wedding) stayed and heard confessions in another part of the chapel. No privacy that way, but no biggy to me...

You should come to Rome...the ones in St. Peter's look like this (and they're the most private ones I've seen in the city - the confessionals usually don't have those little flaps of wood on the sides acting as face guards)...
