I am enrolled for this class... first off, one of our textbooks is the "Complete Idiot's Guide to Understanding Catholicism" meh... the other is "The Catholic Church: A Short History" by Hans Kung...

The "External Links listed on Blackboard are:

http://www.usccb.org/sdwp/international/justwar.htm Just War Commentary
This page contains an abbreviated version of and commentary on Just War Theory.

http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/index.htm Referrence: The Catechism of the Catholic Church
The Elmhurst College Library also has a copy of the Catechism of the Catholic Church available in the reference section- Reference # 238.2c357.

http://www.vatican.va/ Referrence Website: The Vatican
This is the official site for the Vatican. It can be a bit tricky if you do not know some Church language, but it can also be a valuable resource so click around on it if you have the time or need some information.

http://www.uscatholic.org/1998/01/featb9801.htm Article: Cafeteria Catholics
An article (not required reading) that offers some insights on the notion of being picking and choosing Catholic beliefs.

Thank goodness there will be Catholics already in the class...

I hope this course will be better than it is looking right now...

Idiots guide is about the worst writing on the Catholic Church you can find that claims its good. Extremely awful stuff.

Or you could stick through it and inform your instructor and classmates about what the Catholic Church really is, not what the guide for idiots says. By having the idiots guide as required reading, the instructor is saying that you're all idiots! AN INSULT!

No articles from early Church fathers or councils? :(

The Idiot's guide does not accurately portray Catholicism. One of the many problems is the fact it views some cultural superstitious customs as acceptible and common in every day lives of Catholics.

A very accurate alternative, written by two priests from EWTN too.

I think that is the "new" generation... The Diocese is rather lax and liberal... There is an awesome Parish nearby that I have fallen in love with though...
Dunno... maybe it is just our Catholic Co-Chaplain... he is pretty cool to an extent though...
