Donna
Open letter to Gov. Bush on Terri Schindler-Schiavo -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Posted: October 20, 2003 1:00 a.m. Eastern © 2003 WorldNetDaily.com Dear Gov. Bush, You have before you the most important decision of your political career: Will you or will you not uphold your oath of office to protect the constitutional rights of Terri Schindler-Schiavo? Additionally, many of our readers have asked questions which, frankly – as reasonable as they are – I don't know how to answer them. Perhaps you do. For example: Why is it that a governor can commute the death sentence of a person convicted of murder, but cannot stop the execution of an innocent young woman? By the definitions of "cruel and unusual," our courts would not allow a convicted murderer to die of legally sanctioned starvation and dehydration. Why are you allowing this to be done to an innocent young woman? If any person in America tried to euthanize their dog the way you are allowing to be done to Terri Schindler-Schiavo, they would be prosecuted for cruelty to an animal. Why are you allowing this to be done to an innocent human being? Gov. Bush, I must also tell you that your pitiful attempt to make people think you are impotent to act in this matter is not credible. It makes people think you are acting in bad faith – washing your hands of a difficult matter just as Pontius Pilate did with Jesus 2,000 years ago. If such is the case – and I believe it is likely – you sir are a coward without modern-day peer. I hope I'm wrong. But, if you let this woman die, her blood is on your hands. Oh, and yes, Gov. Bush, I am aware there may be a special session of the state legislature that might include a bill to address this matter. But the simple fact is you already have grounds to take charge now. By the time this "special session" gets done, Terri may very well be dead. But then you'll be able to shrug your shoulders and give yourself and the legislature enough cover to pretend you really tried to help Terri, right? Surely, governor, there are ample reasons to warrant investigations into the activities of the people involved in seeking Terri's death. And surely there is ample evidence that Terri is no more a vegetable than you are, governor – she laughs, she cries, she moves in response to words and other stimuli. She is awake. She is alive. And she is a citizen of your state who is entitled to the full protection of the law. Terri Schindler-Schiavo is being denied her right to life. She needs help to be rehabilitated. She does not deserve a painful execution that we wouldn't even subject dogs or criminals to. So, governor, will you act honorably and uphold the integrity of your oath of office or will you allow an innocent, helpless woman to be murdered by legally mandated neglect? The world is watching. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tom Ambrose is the commentary editor of WorldNetDaily. Donna
floridians...pass the word asap Breaking News PRESS RELEASE Special Session Called in State Legislature Speaker of the House, Johnnie Byrd to introduce “Terri’s Bill” Clearwater, FL October 19, 2003: The Governor of Florida, Jeb Bush, has called a special session of the Florida Legislature for Monday, October 20, 2003. At that time, Florida’s Speaker of the House will introduce “Terri’s Bill”. By Florida law, two thirds majority vote are required to have a topic entered. Volunteers with the Terri Schindler-Schiavo Foundation have learned that Senate President, Jim King is against this bill. The Bill would put an immediate moratorium on all dehydration and starvation deaths currently pending in Florida. We have come to a time when the merchants of death have created a constitutional crisis and a justice gridlock, while the rightful life of Florida’s disabled and vulnerable citizens tragically hang on Terri Schindler-Schiavo’s court ordered dehydration and starvation death. We urge all concerned Floridians to contact their Senators and State House members to vote for Terri’s bill. Time is short. The Number to Call is 850-487-5229 Legal Specialists Assure the Governor that he can take action. From Thomas Moore Law Center document1 document2 From Herbert Titus document From John B. Donna
National Catholic Media Figures Send Open Letter to Gov. Jeb Bush Demanding that Terri Schiavo's Starvation/Euthanasia Be Ended Immediately 10/20/2003 9:24:00 AM - Catholic Media Coalition Dear Governor Bush: As members of the Catholic media, we beg you, in the name of our Lord Jesus, to intervene in the case of Terry Schiavo, and, by extension, in the lives of the millions of persons with special needs in Florida and throughout our country whose lives will be greatly endangered if Ms. Schiavo is left to die, or, more accurately, murdered through the present withdrawal of food and water. The judge in this case is acting on a remarkable doctrine: That food and water are medicines which may be granted or withheld based on judicial order. What legal or moral authority gives anyone the right to withhold food and water from an innocent person? Starvation is a most painful and difficult death. If one were to propose it as a method of execution for death row prisoners, it would be instantly opposed by society under the Constitution's prohibition against cruel and unusual punishment. If starvation is cruel and unusual punishment, it should not have the imprimatur of the State of Florida for any innocent citizen. We admire your seeking the assistance of the St. Thomas More Society concerning what is legally just. And we are strengthened in our hearts by their response that, at the very least, you have the authority and the duty to protect her life and to conduct a proper and thorough investigation. We appreciate the difficulty of this matter and that the right course of action before God may not be the popular one in today's culture. The moral and just path, however, is clear to us who believe that human life is God's to give and His alone to take. History has shown the truth of the statement, The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing. We would go a step further in saying that those who have the power to do good, and yet do nothing, participate in the triumph of evil, whether or not their withholding of the good seeks or intends such evil. It may be that our Lord has put you into office, like Queen Esther of old, for such a time as this . The God who saved Esther, and through her, the people of God, will not abandon you, dear Governor. He is faithful. May our Lord Jesus Christ be your comfort and guide in this urgent hour, and may you be His instrument to save the life of one of His little ones , and through her, the dignity of every soul made in His image. Jake Huether
Yes Donna, I think you are targetting the wrong person. Jeb has his hands tied by the legislation WE voted for. Fight the Courts not the Gov. I believe he has sincerely tried to do his best, and in sending letters which equate him to Pontius Pilate, you may do more harm than good. Imagine if he has done all that he can do, then you are persecuting someone unjustly. If you did all you could, and someone called you Pontius Pilate, how would you feel? I understand you are venting. But think before you act. Jeb legally is tied. He isn't a lawyer either, so he may not know of certain things. It is the legal people that are the Pilates! Jake Huether
Why would a person (Mr. Shiavo) want his wife to die? Why would he refuse his spouse help to get better? The only thing I could come up with is that if the spouse gets better, she could implicate the person in a serious crime. I could be wrong. We wonders, aye we wonders. Good questions. The answers seem obvoius to us laypeople. It just stumps me why the courts are so thick headed. If Terri lives, her husband is in a pit, because he can't get his big bucks that were entrusted to Terri for rehab, and he also won't be permitted by the Church to get married to his lover. If Terri dies on the other hand, Mr. "Freeman", can marry his lover, with whome he has already had adulterous sex and children with, and he will reap the benefits of a large lump of money that will be inherated through the trust fund set up for his wife's rehab. In the back of my head I pray that if Terri is to die, I hope that she can muster up the strength to wake up and talk to her husband. I hope and pray that she is able to forgive him for his sins against her TO HIS FACE. Because in doing so, I believe that he will be convicted to change, repent, and be brought back to communion with the Church.

cmotherofpirl
Flurry of activity to help save Terri Disabilities group seeks abuse probe, lawmakers consider bill but don't act -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Posted: October 20, 2003 5:00 p.m. Eastern © 2003 WorldNetDaily.com Supporters of Robert and Mary Schindler's efforts to keep their daughter Terri Schindler-Schiavo alive are maintaining a frantic pace six days after the brain-disabled woman's feeding tube was removed by a judge's order. The Tallahasse-based Advocacy Center for Persons with Disabilities has filed for an injunction to keep her alive in order to have time to investigate whether removal of her life-sustaining feeding tube was an act of abuse by her husband, Michael Schiavo, the Associated Press reported. Schiavo -- who lives with another woman with whom he has a child and another on the way -- cut off all access to Terri's therapy and claims he only is fulfilling wishes expressed before she suffered a sudden collapse in 1990 under mysterious circumstances. The Schindlers, who maintain a website on their daughter's case, say they have evidence Terri was physically attacked. U.S. District Judge Steven Merryday announced he will issue a decision on the Tallahassee group's request by the end of the day. Gordon Scott, an attorney for the advocacy group, asked for a 10-day injunction to provide time for an investigation after he had conversations with the Schindlers and a neurologist. Scott said he is not convinced Terri is in a "persistent vegetative state" as claimed by Michael Schiavo and his advocates. Pinellas County Circuit Judge George W. Greer agreed to that assessment, however, and ordered the feeding tube removed Oct. 15. Scott also believes, contrary to Michael Schiavo's claims, Terri is feeling pain from the starvation and dehydration. George Felos, Michael Schiavo's attorney, contended Merryday has no jurisdiction in the case. The Schindler family said Terri appears to be in stable condition at the Pinellas Park, Fla., hospice where she resides. "She seems to be alert,'' said her brother, Bob Schindler Jr., according to the Associated Press. "But every day that goes by, we're getting into a crucial time for her. She's got an incredible will to live." Florida House of Representatives Speaker Johnnie Byrd, R-Plant City, said lawmakers were trying to put together a moratorium "on the removal of nutrition and hydration from those who do not have a written directive and where there's a contest among the family about how to deal with this." However, no action was taken by the end of today's session. Gov. Jeb Bush, who is under pressure by numerous legal groups insisting he has authority to intervene, contends his staff has not found a solution. "The legal ways, the remedies, don't exist,'' Bush said today, according to the AP. "We've tried every possible legal remedy and have been shut down by the courts.'' Last week, two separate state courts rejected a motion to have the tube reinserted so law enforcement could investigate the case.
