crusader1234
Now, I know we're all in agreement (I think actually) about whether or not Scott Peterson did commit the crime... but what do you think aobut the punishment? I personally find the death penalty totally wrong in this case. He is not a dangerous person, and not a person that cannot be contained.
toledo_jesus
judge andrew napolitano (who is totally awesome, by the way, and spoke out against abortion on the Mancow show) on Fox News made the point that a death sentence would be better in this case for peterson's safety. He would be kept out of the general population where he is likely to be killed. At least for 18-20 years. Anyway, I don't think there was enough evidence to convict him. If he did it, then he deserves to be put away.
I Choose to Be Holy
So...how do you guys down south actually feel about the death sentence in general?

Benedict
Keep in mind "down south" has a specific meaning to Americans. It refers to the large group of states in the Southeast, from Florida to Louisiana and up to Kentucky and Tennessee.. Ash Wednesday
I personally find the death penalty totally wrong in this case. He is not a dangerous person, and not a person that cannot be contained.
Containable? Perhaps. Though I do not think that Mr. Peterson deserves the title "not a dangerous person." Am I passing judgment on his soul? No. But someone who kills their wife and unborn child is not best described as being "not a dangerous person." I actually am more inclined to lean towards life in prison, but I didn't sit on that jury for several months and didn't have to sit through this. I can't say for sure whether or not I would have voted in favor of death. One of the jurors is apparently a Catholic who consulted his priest before serving. I would have done the same thing. I don't think the death penalty is a cut and dry case as far as how it's approached in the church today. The pope apparently frowns down upon it, but as far as I understand it the magesterium allows it in certain cases. So when is that decided...? Hmmm. I for one am not sure. I've been thinking of this a lot throughout this trial. On one hand you had Jesus saving the woman about to be stoned to death, and on the other you have Jesus discussing those who bring little ones into sin being millstoned and thrown into the sea. So I'm not entirely sure how I feel about the DP and what I would do if I was a juror.
J.R.D
I dont think he should get it... There is no "Hard" evidence that he did it so... where is this commin from?
qfnol31
I think it's a tragedy.
JesusSaves1000s
I think Peterson is innocent because a lot of people have been vouching for his innocence. Nobody vouched for O.J. Simpson's innocence because we all knew he commited the crime. It's sad how a killer like O.J. can get away, and an innocent man like Peterson can get wrongfully accused. There has been cases where they have executed innocent people to only find the real killer several days later, but oops it is too late. It's like in the movie Shawshank Redemption where Tim Robbins never killed his wife, it was that sick old man. Who here can play God?
Benedict
It was more likely OJ's son rather than OJ.

Guest Aluigi
if he did it, then he DESERVES the death penalty and no matter what the state is morally justified in giving him the death penalty. when a person guilty of murder is containable the government should grant mercy to the person and give them life imprisonment. if they do not, their moral wrong would not be putting them to deatH (that would be just if the person murdered) but rather not considering mercy in their judgement. the killing of a murderer by the state is always a just action because it is their God given right as the authority to give them this just punishment

I'm just teasing. On a more serious note I wouldn't doubt it if O.J.'s son had something to do with it.
