LSW
The way I see it, there is nothing good in itself in being born with such a deformity. It's shocking, horrible and I wouldn't wish anything like that on my worst enemy. However I remember the twins who share the same body (one body, two heads) and their faith in God and how they brought out the best in other people. That's not to say I think it's a good thing, but everything happens for a reason. Some people have different callings in life..
Yes I must say that I agree also. Theoketos
What? Being born is good in and of itself. Life is Good! Life is beautiful in itself! That Child is still a soul. Just because her body is different does not mean she is ugly! On top of that suffering is not meaningless! I am geniunely dissapointed with some people's attitude. I am sure that God loves the Child no matter what she looks like, and we should also.
daugher-of-Mary
She is a beautiful little one, sustained every moment by the God who loves her and brought her into being. Seeing this thread made me think of the Christmas story...the Infant Christ hidden in a rough stable. The little girl's body might not be "beautiful" by the world's standards, but that doesn't change the fact that she is a tabernacle of the Most High. While I know that being born with deformities must be a very heavy cross to bear I know that this little girl must be bringing so many blessings to her family. I can't say that "nothing good" can come of being born like that, I think her family's courage and testimony is proof enough that some good things must come from it. Looking at my perfectly formed little angel running around the house jabbering away I am grateful for the many blessings she has brought us, and I know that that family must feel the same way when they look at their daughter despite her outward appearance. Krush2k2
what if she was born instead the most beautiful girl ever, became a prostitute, slept with tons of guys, lived a life of sin and died of aids and went to Hell-what if this was a way for God to let her get into heaven which time here on earth is a blink of an eye compared to? p0lar_bear
I knew a girl who was born without a mouth (really, no upper palate, no teeth, no tongue, no opening), her family moved away when she was six or seven. She was a very happy little girl who did well in school (she couldn't talk so she had a para assigned to her to help translate the sign language). She got along with the "normal" kids in her class. Yes, there were people who made comments about how she looked, and I'm sure thing were very difficult sometimes. But, her parents never really seemed to question whether they should have had her. In fact, they later had another little girl with the same problem. (The second girl had no cartilege in her throat so see died at 3 or 4 months). The reason this is such a big deal is because of the vain society we live in. SO much emphasis has been placed on looks in this world we live in, when in all actuality we are all the most beautiful ever created. Are we not all created in the image and likeness of God? How can someone be ugly?
ICTHUS
'In all things, God works for the good of those who love Him' (Romans 8:28) That little girl may be God's instrument for raising up some great saints who will minister to people with special needs. Makes me appreciate the gifts God has given me, even though I have Spina Bifida.

Benedict
Baby Blues is drawn in my hometown, you know. The maternity ward in the hospital where I worked was decorated with drawings by Rick Kirkman and Jerry Scott.
