Forget Headscarves there are more important things

The headscarf question reminded me of something. In Orthodoxy, the priests still always wear cassocks and so do readers, and deacons, etc. I confessed to a Catholic priest last week and he was wearing a flannel shirt, khaki pants, and a stole. This would never ever happen in Orthodoxy. I think that the Catholic church as become far too lax in what they allow the clergy to wear. I even saw a priest give mass wearing shorts underneath his robe. So do you think that cassocks should be re-instituted?

I think cassocks are cool but I am not going to hing my faith on it.....

On a side note my priest doesn't even own a pair of jeans....all he has are his clerics.

Ash Wednesday

I think cassocks would be cool. In the attempt to be "warm and fuzzy" one reaches a point where they wonder why so many Catholics are wishy washy. Not that cassocks would convert the masses but there is the unspoken message of authority that comes with what one wears. We often carry ourselves differently depending on what we wear.

Ash Wednesday

I ran into my priest at the grocery store last week late in the evening and he was in civilian garb. That kinda weirded me out.
Father Barker wears his cassock most of the time. I like my parish.
What's your parish? I want to visit.

Bingo. I like cassocks. Even wearing one as a seminarian, you could tell that people had a certain higher respect for the Church when they saw you.

I was under the impression that for a Roman Catholic this was extremely difficult.

Nah. You just have to admit that the filioque was a nonsensical addition to the creed and that the Bishop of Rome is the Bishop of Rome. Not too hard.
and you have to learn how to cross yourself from right to left....otherwise they know you are a Catholic.
:P
I was left handed so I always accidentally crossed myself backwards when I was catholic. So I didn't have to change. You also have to have your thumb, index finger and middle fingers touching. And your other two fingers should touch your palm. The first three fingers represent the trinity. I forget what the other part means.

Christ fully humana nd Christ fully divine.

Dual nature.... two fingers.
