I appreciate and support the arts, freedom of speech, etc, etc,... but I cannot believe that Cardinal Mahoney paid $163 million for a Space Ship parked in the middle of downtown Los Angeles!!! There's so much poverty in L.A. and soooo much money could have been channeled elseware. I think he should have been less controversal and decided upon something that every Catholic in his diocese would appreciate - progressives, liberals, and conservatives b/c after all it's their diocese and their cathedral. Modern art fads come and go and I think the poor people of Los Angeles are going to be stuck with that monstrocity for a really long time.

If you didn't guess, I think the cathedral is ugly too.
