homeschoolmom
He wanted to visit a new church this morning. It was a Baptist church and they held the service in the gymnasium. Ugh. No reverence.
If you think of God as your pal, you can meet him in the gym... if you think of him as your Lord, you meet him in church. Not to say, of course, that worship cannot or does not take place in a gym. But I think it says a lot for the mindset of "Jesus-- my buddy" theology. Dreamweaver
Ooo, I had another weird church story last night! I was assisting the Bishop with Mass (our cathedral only has male altar servers though..so yeah, but I was playing Cranium yesterday, and one of my charades card was to act out altar boy). Anyway, it was a disaster. Anything that could go wrong did go wrong, running out of consecrated Hosts, stuff getting broken and what not. I remember that somehow the candles made the gilding on metal objects fall off. Very strange. Its probably a sign that there shouldn't be altar girls. Neal4Christ
Gal. 5, I just wanted to encourage you on the journey you have embarked on. I come from a similar situation. My wife and I will come home at the Easter Vigil this year. I was a Baptist seminary student at a very conservative SBC school when I began this journey a little over a year and a half ago. My wife was not interested at first either, but after much prayer (for her and me both!), she became interested and is going to come home to the Church with me. It was definitely a very difficult journey, but one I would not change, because my relationship with the Lord is so much deeper now. If you ever need anything, please, let me know. Like you, the early Church fathers got to me. The main issue in my conversion is the Eucharist and the Real presence. I couldn't believe the unanimity of the early Church on the issue. God Bless you on your journey! In Christ, Neal

akamarymag
yall rock i joined the church this last easter also and my parents are still in shock ( i was 15)... i know i may b a bit late with this but i remeber having the same nightmare over and over before reciving for the first time. i dreamed that as the priest was handing me the chalace with the precious blood it fell . the bouncing of the chalace went in slow motion, it was terrable. As i was droping down to drink his blood off the marble floor id wake up, every time. It wasnt until after i came into the church that the dreams stopped. Benedicite
This really touched my heart guys, all the posts about nightmarish dreamish thingies about Holy Communion makes me think about the love and respect ya'll have for our Lord in the Eucharist! I don't know anything about how the mind works or anything, but my guess is that your fears of the Body and Blood of our Lord being disrespected are being brought forth by your subconscious.. hence these dreams.... Yeay! Go Eucharist loving peeps!! I might as well share~ A while ago I had a dream where I was at the a youth retreat. I was asked to serve as EME right, but come the Mass, and this guy took the host from my hand and started breaking it into pieces, laughing, and dropping the little bits all over the ground So I quickly snatched what was left back off him, picked up the little pieces and ran from the room with the rest of the hosts and ended up in another little room we marked off as the chapel. I sat down with the paten in my lap and cried... I can't remember exactly... but I think that was during a time when I was really stressed about people doing intinction , and I got hissed at for telling them it's not allowed.... only to have them move on to the next minister of the Chalice
una_fide
Well, I'm reading the Catechism, the early Church Fathers, and Chesterson's book on St. Thomas Aquinas and St. Francis of Assisi. And of course, the Bible. Any other suggestions?
Chesterton's Orthodoxy I haven't read all the way through it, but it's really cool. And anything by Patrick Madrid. I've had a bunch of dreams about the Mass(including one with a procession and one where we were blessed with Holy Water) (the one with the procession is exceedingly weird) most of them have one half where I'm going to Mass and being faithful to God and feeling really good (I know that's a run-on sentence), and in the other half I start sinning (teen mortal sins... You know what I mean!) and feel really (well frankly) crappy
una_fide
Yes actually. I read or at least skimmed over 400 books before becoming Catholic. Among the best I have compiled below: Bibles The Holy Bible: Catholic Edition (NRSV) – Nelson Publishers
I would have to disagree with Brother Adam. I have a Copy of the NRSV, and it's all... inclusive languagey.
