Dream about Communion

Still being a new convert I will post this in this forum:

Normally I'm not up until 9:30-10am, but this morning I bolted out of bed before 7:30 even though I was up until almost 2am.

I had a dream this morning about mass that I thought I'd share.

I was in a church that resembled our campus chapel sitting on the end of a pew towards the back and oddly enough my parents ( who are Lutheran) where there. When it came time for communion the priest came up to me and Teresa and noted they were desperate for two more extraordinary ministers. I wanted to say "I'm not trained, I can't" but of course things just don't work that way in dreams. Suddenly I'm actually in a white robe holding the chalice and following a preist to the back of the church to form another communion line. I stand there holding the chalice as people come up. I am absolutely abhored at the lack of reverence given to the Sacred Blood, some people half grabbing at the cup and spilling the Blood on the ground. In the dream I wanted to scream take the cup back to the priest and beg God's forgiveness. But of course I then suddenly find that everyone has recieved and in fact the priest has already finished putting everything away, me though with cup still in hand. I walk up and the priest realizes he forgot something and the words "you all are a bunch of idiots" storm out of Church, rip the robe off AND.....

...wake up.

So regardless to say I've already spent some time in front of the family altar in our apartment asking God to help me figure out if this dream has any signifigance at all.

Very interesting ... hmmm ...

BTW, you don't have to be a new convert to post in this phorum. It's intended for anyone at any point along the conversion process. ;)

I had a lot of dreams immediately surround the time I converted, but none of them were on the face of it about the church. They played out some of the anxiety I felt about converting, but always with the underlying surety that I'd be alright.

For example, I dreamed I was in a house that was destroyed by a flood, but immediately before the flood struck I left and was able to make it to safety. I talked to a friend of mine who's a counselor who interprets dreams, and she said houses generally reflect one's self, so I was concerned about the impending flood of changes doing damage to myself, but knew I'd eventually be OK.

The dreams stopped not long after I joined the church.

Aye, while I was a catechumen I had dreams about the eucharist that were sooo freaky my priest said, "Well, you can't rule out the devil," and prayed over me for about a minute. The dreams stopped after I was baptized. I bet your dreams are just from the stress of converting.

Blessed be God!

It seems that you are concerned that people aren't giving the reverance to The Eucharist that Jesus deserves. And that you want to do something about it, but are scarred. (I used to be in a Physchology class where I had to interpret dreams.)

Totus Tuus,
Andrew

PS- I had a dream once when I got all ready for Mass and when I went up to receive The Body of Christ the priest ran out...(This was before I converted and when I really really wanted to receive Holy Communion.)

I had a dream that during Easter Vigil I was chewing gum... then when I went up to receive, I swallowed the gum... and I had to turn around and sit down... :(

But since I almost never chew gum... and I would never chew it in church... I wasn't too worried.

Thy Geekdom Come

I had a dream once that I was about to die in a terrible car crash and couldn't do anything to stop it, so I just made the sign of the Cross and was like, "here I come, Lord!"

...but then, I'm not a convert... :leave:

I had a dream a few months ago that I was taking Communion in the Catholic Church. I did not tell my husband about this dream. The very next night my husband had a dream. He woke up the next morning and said "What's going on with you, I had a dream you became Catholic?" Where this will all lead, I do not know, but I know that God sometimes speaks to us through dreams.

Well, I'm reading the Catechism, the early Church Fathers, and Chesterson's book on St. Thomas Aquinas and St. Francis of Assisi. And of course, the Bible. Any other suggestions? :P

Goodness! Have you read all those? I would have to say that BORN FUNDAMENTALIST, BORN AGAIN CATHOLIC is the one book I have read that really made me consider the Catholic Church. I have also read Hahn's HAIL HOLY QUEEN AND THE LAMB'S SUPPER. Another good one is Bennett's FOUR WITNESSES. I just ordered the Jerome Commentary on the advice of a woman who heads up the Religious Education program at our local Catholic Church.

You know you need to get out when you realize you've just spent four hours on the couch reading the Bible...

Yes, and many more.

Bennett's book is also very good. So are you considering becoming Catholic then? What's your story? Share with us please! :)
