Duc_In_Altum
i too was once a fan and enjoyed the music thoroughlyl, but i think part of the sacrifice that goes with standing up for life, especially in the fields of media, is sacrificing the pleasure of listening to that music because of what it associated with.... let me know what you think
Yea, b. I hear ya. I guess i only can justify it by the fact that DMB grosses millions of dollars every year. I used to be big on burning but i rarely do it anymore, and when i do, its just to make a backup. That's a whole another debate in a thread that im sure has been long since addressed. That's kinda where im torn. I said it more in passing than anything. I don't think ill actually do it. You make a very valid point though. el paz, -Joe
Kilroy the Ninja
DMB is over-rated. And he seems kinda snooty, but that may just be me. I try not to support them at all because of their beliefs and causes they support. Musically their stuff is ok, kinda one step up from Hootie and the Blowfish (I've been involved in music, this is my professional opinion). But some of the lyrics are provocative. But they're overplayed by stations like Clear Channel and they support un-worthy causes. So I can live without 'em.
Ash Wednesday
I'm glad practically all of the schmoes on that list are not on my list of bands I like. Unfortunately I have some Alanis and Madonna but, meh. I'm doubtful that I will buy any more of their music because Madge is washed up and Alanis doesn't interest me anymore. (That was in my angry breakup phase.) I think DMB is overrated and pretentious, in my very humble opinion.
Stceciliapray4us
I was wondering others take on them.....i happen to be a large fan although i do know that he is pro choice and was on the vote for change tour.......my arguement is that in a lot of his music you hear a lot of talk about God......also his lyrics are very "hidden" so that you can get all type of messages out of the music.......i personally get a lot of spiritual messages from the music...so tell me your thoughts..............
I do think he is an amazing musician/song writer, but I dont like giving him $ because he does donate $ to pro choice peeps and other political stuff I dont like - All my CD's by him are burned - so that way I dont give him $ However he does write some beautiful spiritual stuff....his CHRISTMAS SONG is absolutely AMAZING!!!!!!!! He tells the story of our Savior in such a beautiful way.... (its on the Dave Mathew Tim Reynolds acoustic CD) I get sick of all the "jesus I love you, take my hand" type lyrics....praise songs seem like they were written in two minutes sometimes (lyrically) so this song was very refreshing. I reccomend people to not give $ to artists like Dave, but if he has something positive to say in a song or two, dont feel bad listening to it. If he claimed to be a Christian or Catholic artist while still being pro choice I would be REALLY mad and not support him at all.....but he doesnt claim that stuff so whatever right? inDEED
I used to big the biggest Dave fan until a good friend showed me what he truly supports... You see, even though a musician, politician, actor, etc, etc talks about peace, love, mercy, etc - if he or she can't support something as simple and sacred as life - then what does everything else matter? Take a listen to MC Just's Crusade II track... If you support pro-choice, then I don't support you... His music and message may be "nice"...but his money goes to murder... Simple as that... jp2_rules
They have some good songs, but I think they are highly overrated. I try not to buy music by people that are pro-choice but I have done it accidentally a few times. I try to get Christian bands now. They have a darn good drummer though...
whoa whoa whoa. they are not overrated(though many have on here have said that). they are some of the best jazz musicians around--and that is my true opinion as a musician myself. they have a unique sound of folk, rock and jazz, and i love their stuff. not a big fan of a lot of the lyrics, though they aren't all bad... but musically, they are very inspiring. i have not seen them live, but have listened to quite a bit of their music, and seen a couple of their dvd's. they put on a good show. my jamming buddy and i like play some of their songs as well. christmas song is one of the ones we do, and except for that one line about mary magdalene, it's a good song, and i like it alot. that's my .02. oh, and yes, carter is an amazing drummer!! don't know how he does some of that stuff... HomeTeamFamily
im on the fence about dmb as well....while i do enjoy the music primarily on most if not all of his songs, its hard to support the things he does for PP and prochoice things man why couldnt his music just smell of elderberries and make my decision easy.... Catholic_Pinoy
I don't really like DMB's music. I don't find it offensive or anything, it's just not my taste. However, that's not why I dislike them. I dislike DMB b/c they support abortion, which I am strongly opposed to. God Bless.
aloha918
I am ok with a lot of you that say that you don't listen to them because they support abortion, pp, and all that jazz....but i think that you should be consistant in that view....should i not work at the resturant thaty i do because they serve pepsi...which supports PP......or buy tacos, so very tasty and good for you, at taco bell because they serve pepsi.........you could take this thinking so far as to say that i don't like this company because they support a company that supports stem cell reasearch......and lets face it...half of this country is pro choice.....meanig that the chances of half of the companies are pro choice........furthermore.......i feel that i get a lot of inspiration out of his music, both musically, and in some of his songs, spiritually....for me i think a hole lot of positives outweight a few negatives........ peace out Edited January 9, 2005 by aloha918
Totus Tuus
Don't know if it was mentioned but I wanted to tell you guys that according to Rock for Life, DMB is pro-choice. They have some good articles at their website (www.rockforlife.org). I do love Dave though... I just don't buy his stuff. Two Step & Cry Freedom are two of my favorites
ryanmeyersmusic
i find it interesting that many of your responses to dave doing something wrong (donating to planned parenthood) is to do something wrong (steal his music). maybe the next time you sin someone should take a couple of bucks out of your wallet...
