I was wondering others take on them.....i happen to be a large fan although i do know that he is pro choice and was on the vote for change tour.......my arguement is that in a lot of his music you hear a lot of talk about God......also his lyrics are very "hidden" so that you can get all type of messages out of the music.......i personally get a lot of spiritual messages from the music...so tell me your thoughts..............

I used to be a huge DMB fan. They're arguably just about the most talented secular artist around. They have some really amazing songs out there: ie. the dreaming tree, big eyed fish, #41, say goodbye, all along the watchtower, warehouse, etc.

I really don't listen to much secular music anymore though. They, as of about three months ago, were one of the few i still listened to. Then I found out they were pro-choice and found it really disappointing. I refuse to support just about anything pro choice. I, regrettably, no longer will buy their music or attend their shows. I havent listened to my old DMB cd's for a while now but am considering cuz i miss it a lot. i don't know if i should though. Im pretty torn on the issue.

They have some good songs, but I think they are highly overrated.
I try not to buy music by people that are pro-choice but I have done it accidentally a few times. I try to get Christian bands now.

They have a darn good drummer though...

i really like their music too. its a shame that his personal/political beliefs are not christian. like, i woulda guessed differently after listening to "Bartender". that song is really good and has obvious christian/catholic influences.
i realize what you mean....but i think that you are supporting their music...not their personal beliefs...........
That's true only to an extent. You see, DMB isn't just pro-choice. They actually donate a portion of their concert and cd proceeds to Planned Parenthood. So even if i did support their muzik by buying a cd or attending their concert, i would be indirectly supporting abortion. So i think ill choose to burn their cd's from now on and just listen to them privately. But wont burn the cd of a christian artist.

God bless.
There are many reasons for a band to be on our pro-abortion bands list. Some of them donate money or play concerts to raise money for Planned Parenthood, Rock for Choice, Voters for Choice, Axis of Justice, America Coming Together, PunkVoter.com, Air Traffic Control Project, or other pro-abortion causes.  Some of these bands produce songs with a pro-abortion message or they have taken a strong pro-choice stance. The bands on the following list either promote or endorse abortion.
^ DMB is on that list. You can see for yourself here: http://rockforlife.org/html/music_proabortionbands.html

The reason we know they are a pro-choice band is because they actively support pro-choice causes. If it were simply personal opinion and nothing more, what would be the sense in proclaiming it?

Don't Accept Condoms From Dave Matthews

And:
Vox works with musicians and the music industry to help create a healthier world and to inspire young people to use the power in their voices. This fall Planned Parenthood linked up with Ani DiFranco's tour, and staff and volunteers from many Planned Parenthood affiliates nationwide were at the shows to provide vital information about reproductive health and rights, and to recruit young people to Vox. Planned Parenthood has conducted outreach at thousands of shows, including Dave Matthews Band, Barenaked Ladies, Phish, No Doubt, Santana, Moby, Joan Osborne, Vans Warped Tour, and many others.
Sad, but true...

I agree mostly with what my boy Duc IN says... minus one thing... Do you feel that it is okay to burn the cd, even if you know you're not gonna buy it in stores? I think this is something that goes against catholic beliefs as far as stealing, and the virtue of being honest. All musicians work for a living (i'm not saying most of them are hard pressed for cash) and should be given proper profit for people enjoying their product. By no means am i encouraging buying a DMB cd... i too was once a fan and enjoyed the music thoroughlyl, but i think part of the sacrifice that goes with standing up for life, especially in the fields of media, is sacrificing the pleasure of listening to that music because of what it associated with.... let me know what you think

much love and peace
