Thy Geekdom Come
Okay, so my ancient warfare prof decided to give us an assignment very recently which requires me to search through, read, organize, and cross-reference random passages from five ancient texts to make an argument. We've been reading these works all semester. The only problem--he just gave us this assignment, so no one was expecting it, no one was highlighting certain passages in anticipation, and no one knows off-hand were to find any of the things he's looking for (but of course, he's fluent in Latin and Greek and knows exactly what he's looking for, so he expects us to, as well)... Anyone know anything about the following works enough to point me around? Anabasis. Xenophon. The Age of Alexander. Plutarch. A History of My Times. Xenophon. The Peloponnesian War. Thucydides. The Gallic War. Caesar. TCW? Anyone?

Balthazor
I know what you mena about professors though....I once had one of em hand out a brochure style syllabus that had a disclaimer and said I reserve the right to change all dates and assignments...... He was not a very good profesor.

Balthazor
that is what i thought...... i am looking at the passage that you cited...I don't think you have too much to worry about the passage isn't that long, it could be worse. So could have a ten page review essay due tommorrow about poverty and inequality in Guatemala.

Okay...the premise is that I have to be the prosecutor in a sort of afterlife tribunal of Sabinus and Cotta...I have to be able to point out the mistakes they made in that passage with reference to what they should have known from the other sources. This is from the same guy who wants me to sight-translate, without a dictionary, any selections out of about 2600 lines of Latin poetry...I have a little more than a week to prepare for that, which he just told us about two weeks ago (we only have class once a week)...so I need to be able to look at any random verse and know the gist of it well enough that I can translate it...needless to say, the class doubles as a grad level course...and I also have to make a book of phrases from Roman comedies for the same class... Thy Geekdom Come
It would be nice if I could have a reference from the other texts along the lines of: 1. Don't trust your enemies or even your former enemies. 2. Don't march in thin ranks, it just makes you easy pickings. 3. Don't make deals with the natives.
