When he discovered Mary was pregnant after they had been betrothed, he knew the child was not his but was as yet unaware that she was carrying the Son of God. He planned to divorce Mary according to the law but he was concerned for her suffering and safety. He knew that women accused to adultery could be stoned to death, so he decided to divorce her quietly and not expose her to shame or cruelty (Matthew 1:19-25). Is this true? Guest Aluigi
I have an assignment for you: Read the Gospel. Yes, He was planning to divorce her quietly. He was visited by an angel in a dream and told not to because Mary was carrying a Child by the Power of the Holy Spirit

Guest Aluigi
check the scripture they cited 1:19Whereupon Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing publicly to expose her, was minded to put her away privately. 1:20But while he thought on these things, behold the Angel of the Lord appeared to him in his sleep, saying: Joseph, son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife, for that which is conceived in her, is of the Holy Ghost. 1:21And she shall bring forth a son: and thou shalt call his name Jesus. For he shall save his people from their sins. 1:22Now all this was done that it might be fulfilled which the Lord spoke by the prophet, saying: 1:23Behold a virgin shall be with child, and bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. 1:24And Joseph rising up from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him, and took unto him his wife. 1:25And he knew her not till she brought forth her first born son: and he called his name Jesus.
Only our bodies die, the soul will live forever in one of two places: heaven or hell. God is a God of living souls, not dead bodies. All member of the Body of Christ [Church Trimphant - heaven , Church Militant - earth ,and Church Suffering -Purgatory ] are united together. WE are family, and familes pray for each other. toledo_jesus
God is God of the living, and since those in Heaven live with God, it only makes sense that they can and would pray for us. It's Eternal Life, after all, not Eternal Death. So asking them to pray is no different than asking you to pray for us, cause they are alive in Heaven while dead on earth. But anyway, back on topic. Joseph only contemplated divorcing her quietly to spare them both public humiliation. However, a little divine intervention cleared the issue up for him...no worries! MagiDragon
People in heaven are dead?
Pal, you crack me up sometimes. you are *so* on top of most things . . . but when it comes to something that you *should* know (That an angel then came to Joseph.) you act as if you've never heard it! *rolls eyes and shakes head grinning* I don't mean that to be taken harshly at all, i just find it rather amusing . . . i'd have bet a lot of money that you'd already have known that. As for people being dead if they're in heaven: their *bodies* are dead. Their souls are very much alive. So, no, *they* are not dead. Their bodies are. 'tis a subtle, but important, difference. Socrates
The word "divorce" used in the gospel translation refers to breaking off an engagement (betrothal), not to ending a marriage (the type of divorce condemned by the Church). Joseph and Mary were betrothed to one another at this time, but not yet actually married. No sin would be involved with this act.
