I am very vocal in my classes and I am a devoted Catholic. It didn't take long for my classmates to figure out that I am Catholic, because whenever profesor or a Student says some snarky comment on the church, I am usually the only one to defend her.

Today in class one of my friends was talking to me, this is the same guy that asked me to my face "Do you really believe that peice of bread and wine become Jesus?" ....I told him I did, and that I awas going to adoration after class.... well I went at 2:00AM so maybe not right after class.

He seemed satisfyed, and I did not hear any more of it. Now today he hands me this book "the Gospel according to Rome" and asks me to please be open and read it......

I looked at one part of it regarding Mary....I have gotten good at defending Mary over the years and I have heard every arguement against her under the sun. Yup same old spiel...

I actually would like to read the book to get some insight into protestant thinking.....but on the other hand I do not want to play with fire.

He sais that he just wants my opinion on it, I do not think that he is trying to convert me, I just think that he wants a more learned Catholic perspective or at least my reaction aftr he saw me defend myself and hold out against a different Classmate who was trying to spit scripture to shake me. I think the guy that gave me the book used to be Catholic.....if that makes any difference.....

what do you guys all think?
What do you guys think?

The teachings of the Catholic Church are infallible. Do not worry about the book converting you. The church has been well defended doctrinally for 2000 years.

ditto. If you're gonna read his book, ask him to read yours.

I have "The Gospel According to Rome"... :P

Ask him if he REALLY believes that the God and Creator of the entire universe was really, really contained in a human body... that's just as odd of a concept. Also God was present in the burning bush and he dwelt in the Holy of Holies... that is not at all a problem for Protestants to believe... yet it's almost impossible to grasp (from them) that when Jesus says, "This is My Body" He's telling it as Truth.

I don;t mind reading it too much really. I have been known to carouse in protestant websites that argue against the church pretty violently. ..... I send them emails correcting them on sometimes when I feel like stirring up trouble :mischief:

I have already read the "Mary" chapter...nothin new there. I am just a little miffed, caught off gard if you will.

HS mom you said you own he Book?
What do you think of the book?

If you're going to do a book swap, I would recommend "Catholic and Christian" by Alan Schreck. I have not read "Rome Sweet Home" (though I've read many other books by Hahn) and well, Scott Hahn is very scholarly, he is very hard for Protestants to listen to. I found him rather... well... let's just say I like him better now that I'm Catholic.

the coagulated milk counter? :D

I think that if you read it, I don't think it would alter your beliefs based on what I've heard from you already, but like the others suggested, have them read a book on Catholicism or some good Scott Hahn book... I'm not to good with all these books, the others know better than I!

Thy Geekdom Come

Don't forget that Bro. Adam came here to convert us and was converted himself. If you think you're strong enough to handle it, go through the apologetics with him...maybe God will use you to convert him. ;)
