The E.U. scares me. Its goals are the same as those of the tower of babel, they are tearing down their borders and somewhat giving up their national identities. what happens when the E.U. starts making federal laws that strike down laws of other countries. this could be the end for Portugal and the Republic of Ireland''s strict anti-abortion laws (Portugal uses its navy to keep that stupid Dutch boat that goes to countries where abortion is illegal and takes women to international waters to kill their babies).. I always wanted a united Ireland without the border there, but this doesn't seem like it would be what i always wanted cause Ireland seems to be denying and abandoning their heritage and cultural identity to join the E.U.

okay, so maybe i'm focusing on Ireland, but there's the portugal abortion problem. what about Poland, don't they have anti-abortion laws the E.U. could possibly strike down.

it just looks to me like tower of babel mentality, unite and defy God. no more barriers, just keep advancing and advancing considering themselves above God.

what do you think.

The EU, on paper, looks like it could be a great group. But when they have "Membership Rules" that countries have to abide by, it takes away the power the individual countries have. Their crusade to make abortion legal and "safe" in all European countries is very disturbing. Europe has a Christian background, and they're trying to yank Europe away from her very roots.

I voted ugly, simply because it COULD serve a good purpose, but they're obviously not. Pooey, I should have voted bad.

Aww, come on people that vote without explaining!

The E.U. is very exciting. Lets have a discussion! Its certainly more fun than looking up the molecular weight for magnesium sulfate (I'm working on organic chem).

:/... the pope isn't always going to make the best political actions. the only countries in Europe, some of the only few in the Northern hemisphere, that retain anti-abortion laws are the Republic of Ireland, Portugal, and Poland. The European Union threatens to create a federal system of law by which those laws could be struck down, perhaps through an E.U. Supreme Court or something.

maybe if that happens Portugal will pull out.

anyway, yeah, the Pope's political decisions won't necessarily be the best.

My personal opinion of the E.U. is that it can be a good thing, but I can't think of any confederate form of government that has been successful. I think as soon as the E.U. starts trampling on state autonomy, it will be bad news. I am also fearful that they will push the liberal, culture-of-death agenda on to countries like Portugal, Poland, and Ireland. Here in Italy, it is really shocking. Everyone has a dog, but nobody has babies. In a generation, when Italy is taken over by Muslims, they will regret it.
Can't be too bad, the Pope told Poland to join.
He also supported the International Criminal Court, even financially. The absurd thing about that is that some of the members are on record saying that it would be possible for the Pope to be charged with crimes against women (not allowing women to be ordained, standing firm against abortion, etc.) and other equally threatening things concerning the Church and national sovereignity. THe point is, just because the Pope supports something (in the realm of geo-politics) does not mean that we all have to support it, or are forbidden from criticizing it.

what a crazy world we live in.
We can only pray that this tide of anti-religion and anti-catholicism in general will go away soon. Of course, if it comes down to religious persecution, would it be just to fight? That would be one way to get rid of the anti-religious bigots.

oh yeah and I think the EU was a bad idea. It may cut down on tensions between the countries but only by removing their individuality on some level.
I remember hearing about the Euro and thinking that it was a shame I'd never get to spend a franc or a deutschemark or whatever.

I have mixed feelings about the EU. It has brought countires together, it is much easier to travle from country to country now in europe and you don't have to change your currency every few few days....I like that part.

It has also helped bring prosperity to countries that were very poor, like Ireland. The hope is now that the newly joined Slovak republic, Poland and Czech republic will also improve economically. YOu might scoff, but these are countries that are decades behind because of the years spent in communism, and someting like the EU has the potential to bring them back up to par with the rest of the world much faster than they could have done it on thier own. These countries are really hoping for a success story like Ireland had.

However on the other hand I don't really always like everything beng homogenous. The Euro is convenient when you are traveling but somehow taking away a country's native currency takes a little bit of a country's identity away.

Like wise any power that is ceded to the EU is power that individual countires do not have. The term has been used, "United States of Europe" but I think that this is just totally off mark...the US's states all agreed they were the same country, Europe is most obviously not like this....they are all differnt coutnries acting under one loose confederation.

I don't know.....I can see how the EU can do so much good, but on the other hand I can see how it can wrest power from individual countries and that I do not like....

The E.U. disgusts me, we only have to wait before they agree upon a united security proposal (which would unite all of Europe into making the same 'security' decisions ahem, think of Iraq). I also think that the Anti Christ will come from Europe. So pray.

see the thing is that both were founded on noble and laudable concepts.
What I am wondering is if they can be selvaged? The concepts have great potential for good and I don't think that we should overlook that part.

Mary's Knight, La

the EU's capacity for good is unfortunately equal to or lesser than their capacity for evil! However, regardless of capacity I think the EU has proven their alliance with evil.

Homogenization is the first step to getting people to roll over like sheep. I give it 50 years before there's either internal or external pressure for the US to join the EU which will then obviously have to change it's name. I'm not a prophet but I can see where things are shaping up.

Honestly, let's look at this: We have a group whos stated goal is to unite several countries into a single body. The only way to do this is to make the citizens into citizens of the new body more so than there old country.

I'm not much into bible prophecy but I still think the EU is a bad idea gone worse.
