I haven't been to mass in months (since Febuary, to be exact) and want to start going again because of my little brother's babtism (okay, okay, he became a Jehova's Witness but he inspired me). Problem is I don't want to go back to the church I was confirmed in. The priest resigned because of accusations made against him and I haven't heard anything about the guy who's there now. What should I do? I feel wierd about going back after all that time away.

Well, first you will need to go to Confession. This will help to clear away all the stuff that is separating you from God because of that time away and will allow you to receive the Body and Blood, the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist faithfully. As for not wanting to go to the church you did go to before, you can just go to a different parish. There is no problem there...just go somewhere else. :)

Most people think they are being watched by all these "holy" people...but your not. Remember that Confession is just like jumping in a big warm pool of God's Mercy. Don't be afraid to swim.

Thanks guys :). I feel like people are going to think negatively about me not having been at church for so long, even though I know that people are usually really happy about those who come back (like you were, Andrew). Thanks again for the support. I'm going to confession this Saturday (only time my church has it).

Oh duarc, trust me, you shouldn't have any worries about returning to your old parish. But, if it would make you feel better, you can go to a different one (after all, the Church is universal so it's the same everywhere :) )
Just go and make a good confession, do your penance, and then receive Jesus in the most holy sacrament of the altar. And ask for Mary's intercession in this time. And enjoy the fullness of truth :) I am glad to hear you are returning!

Just to let you guys know, I went to both Confession AND Mass this past weekend and at my old parish. I teared up in the confessional (I'm tearing up now as I think about this) and I cried when I was alone. I wanna thank you guys for the support you've given.

I'd write more, but I have a research paper due tomorrow morning at 9:30 and I haven't finished yet.

Ironically, that was what the sermon was about; staying awake and being prepared for the coming of the Lord.
