toledo_jesus
I think it's a matter of practicality that the Church didn't encourage the common man to read the Bible. How many commoners could actually read? And further, when you allow the Bible to be read by people who are not informed about the Sacred Tradition, or some of the nuances, it leads people to (gasp!) form their own conflicting opinions about what the Bible actually says and from that arises remarkable discord...good thing that never happened, right? iheartjp2
I disagree...i see the roman catholic church to be much like the pharisee's in Jesus time. Also some what diluded with praying to dead people in Mary as well as the saints. No point praying for a person once there gone as their test is over. Mary would have died in sin if weren't for Jesus as people where confused to the old covenant, even the priests which is evident in how they dealt with Christ but that was prophesy...so is Christ warning people about those liers who come in His name. Mary was blessed no doubt, but the trinity does not include her... The Roman Catholic church didn't even want the bible to be public some hundreds of years ago, this church is Constantine's idea of Christianity and puts too much emphasis on images..idols.."hail mary full of grace"..whats grace to u?
I saw from the first few lines of this post that it's not the issue of the Church not agreeing with the Bible, quite far from it. This is the issue of a protestant who isn't informed on what the church teaches and does, and therefor, lacks the understanding of the Catholic Church in the Bible. Quietfire
The Roman Catholic church didn't even want the bible to be public some hundreds of years ago Oh boy. Specifically when? The Church has never denied Sacred Scripture to God's children. Dare I ask if you are referring to the time before the invention of the printing press? Pax. Catalyst
uneduacted about the Roman Catholic culture? Roman Catholic profess to know Jesus but bow down before Mary. Idolitary, you shall bow down before no other Gods but God. If you need to know about the trinity than let me know. Instead of dismissing what I say so fast, reply and show me how smart and intelligent you are before you ask St. Joan to give a message to Mary to give to Jesus about how to answer. You people say I lack knowledge of the bible? Lets turn this into a quick bible study as to the make up of Yeshua. Can anyone here tell the significance of the hebrew word Elohim, also for such educated people, whats the significance of the lion, the ox, the man, and the eagle....you say protestant because i don't worship idols. The Roman catholic church killed Luther for speaking the truth. Call me Christian, a disciple of the ONLY true and living, a truely God blessed child. Time for a good ol' fashioned Living Word study, and yeah, i'll use broken english seen? Don't be so quick to put a man down. WAKE UP!!! I asked what grace was. Guest Aluigi
the Catholic Church killed Martin Luther? get your history strait if i remember correctly, those are the 4 gospels. the eagle is John cause his gospel looks at things from a higher perspective, Matthew's the human taking a more human perspective approach, Mark was the lion and Luke was the ox, i forget why for those two. we do not commit Idolatry, the worship of anything else than God. we honor God's creatures who have gone before us and are now in heaven with God. Balthazor
The ox, eagle, man and lion are the Cheribum that surround the trhone of God. As Aluigi said each one also representative of each writer or rather the view that they represent of the bible, Mark had the Ox (a symbol of servanthaood), Luke, the son of man, John the son of God in the heavens and Matthew the lion of Judah. Also These also were the principal tribal standards that rallied the four "camps" of Israel (each camp consisting of three tribes) that encamped around the Tabernacle.
