Stop for a moment G, Quiet yourself and take a few deep Breaths. Ask the Lady to help you. She is you spiritual mother who loves you and she will help you. say this prayer:

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary,
that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection,
implored your help or sought your intercession,
was left unaided.
Inspired with this confidence,
I fly to you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother;
to you do I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful.

O Mother of the Word Incarnate,
despise not my petitions,
but in your mercy hear and answer me.

Amen.

We fly to thy patronage, O holy Mother of God;
Despise not our petitions in our necessities, but deliver us always from all dangers,
O glorious and blessed Virgin. Amen.

Peace and Blessings G
-KOTR-

There are a few, you can talk to them directly (as well as church scholars) in the Questions and Answers part of the phorum (they take a while to respond).

Everybody goes through periods of darkness and confusion, I know most of us here on Phatmass have, and I just want to make sure you don't feel like the odd one out or like you're going crazy. We're all here for you, and want you to know that if you need anything or want to know anything, just ask.

Thy Geekdom Come

Fr. Benedict Groeschel is on EWTN right now talking about depression. He says:

-it is advisable to pray the sad psalms (like Psalm 88) to God.

-make sure you live by a standard and consistent schedule.

-when you wake up in the morning, get up immediately.

-do not take naps.

-stay busy and if you have nothing else to do, go for a walk.

-laugh at yourself.

-read the stories of depressed saints, like St. Teresa of Avila, St. Benedict Joseph Labre, and even St. Francis of Assisi.

-read the Book of Job, Chapter 39, Chapter 40, Chapter 41, and Chapter 42.

wow. nice. I'll be sure to use this the next time I feel desolate...

Probably tomorrow.

Blessed be God!

GFreak, a lot of people think I'm a guy, too, I guess cause I'm a little ghetto & my name is AFRO & I love St. Francis of Assisi.

But yeah a lot of the saints were depressed a lot, too. I'm reading St. Therese's Story of a Soul.

Bless you, GFreak. I have been praying for you.

Ash Wednesday

Gfreak,

I have to ask you from a medical standpoint here -- have you seen a doctor or gotten professional help for clinical depression?

Do you have a history of depression or bipolar illness in your family?

The reason why I'm asking is because, while we all have spiritual and mental trials, sometimes what aggrivates our sufferings is medical as well.

I could be completely out in left field here with this, but some of your posts reminded me of things I went through in my first year of college.

My thyroid bottomed out -- and I was diagnosed with clinical depression. My father has had problems with depression and thyroid, so I was vulnerable... and there it was.

I couldn't concentrate on anything, I was tormented with horrible thoughts, I felt like a big black bird was sitting on my chest and shoulders, I was having repetitive thoughts and compulsions, constant doubting about things and obsessive compulsive behavior (I would be driving halfway to my destination and turn around to make sure I turned off the oven, or locked the door, for example.) I also had horrible hallucinations and nightmares like you wouldn't believe. I thought I was losing my mind.

I would advise you to please seek medical help if need be, and consider taking antidepressnats, because something biological could be a factor. Are you eating a balanced diet and sleeping well?

Honestly, in a lot of ways, depression was worse to for me to go through untreated than losing my mom. If you're dealing with something untreated, indeed, you WILL feel like you're losing your mind.

Life is worth living! I'm praying for you.
