Brother Adam
Hey Mulls, I know you are a part of Campus Crusade for Christ. I happened to aquire to new DVD's of the "Jesus film" they show (Jesus: Fact or Fiction). How does it compare to other films on the life of Christ such as "Greatest Story" and "Jesus'? Also, I'm not familiar with some of the speakers in the special features section. What can you tell me about Ravi Zacharias, Paul Miner, Gary Habermas, Darrel Bock. Are all of them from a Protestant-Reformed tradition or are any of them from a Protestant-Liturgical tradition (Lutheran, Anglican?) Thanks for your help. mulls
hey, i've never actually seen the Jesus film, or the other ones you mention. i saw Gary Habermas and Ravi Zacharias speak at an apologetics conference a few months ago. I still have the program from it. Here's some of Habernas' profile... -been on faculty at Liberty University since 1981 -chairman of the department of philosophy and apologetics -wrote many books including "In Defense of Miracles," "Dealing with Doubt," "Verdict of the Shroud," "Why Believe?" and "Ancient Evidence for the LIfe of Christ." at the conference he spoke about historical considerations of the resurrection of Christ. Ravi Zacharias was the featured speaker -spoken in over 50 countries -spoken at many universities, including Harvard, Princeton, Oxford -brough the main address at the National Day of Prayer in D.C., which was endorsed and cohosted by President George W. Bush -addressed writers of the peace accord in South Africa, Presdient Fujimori's cabient and parliament in Peru, and military officers at the Lenin Military Academy and the Center for Geopolitical Strategy in Moscow. -born in India in 1946 -Masters of Divinity from Trinity International University in Illinois. -wrote all sorts of books and has all sorts of honors from all sorts of places -president of Ravi Zacharias International Ministries, HQ'd in Atlanta w/ offices in Canada, India, Singapore and the U.K. these two guys i'm pretty sure are from reformed tradition, but don't quote me on that. never heard of the other two. anything else i can help you with? i dont even know if i did you any good with this. Brother Adam
Hi Mulls, It seems to be quite a phenomenon that those who are a part of fundamental organizations and Campus Crusade who distribute the film have never actually seen the film. Everyone I've talked to in fact (about 5 people now) has never seen the film even though they give it out. I think it would be important to view something so highly regarded. I've just watched the film this evening, and while I'll admit I would rank it as the third best Jesus film I've seen (behind the Passion and Matthew: The Visual Bible) I was disappointed that it didn't keep to the descriptions of the biblical text itself. I watched some of the commentary, including that on the aforementioned speakers and Joshua McDowell and Lee Strobel. I enjoyed how some of the authors presented evidience for the belief in the existance of God (much of which Catholics and Protestants agree on 100%). And naturally I disagreed with the "how to get saved" presentation. Thank you for that information. It was helpful. Even though I spent 3 years as a fundamentalist, I still probably don't know half of the major authors.
mulls
from what i know, the Jesus film is mostly used as an international evangelism tool, which is why many people haven't seen it. crusade is a huuuuuge worldwide ministry.....it is so far-reaching it's scary. there's still alot that i don't know about it yet.
