ok, so doubtless you've seen the video of him in the hospital surrounded by these other people...and you've seen him go to kiss the hand of some guy. And the guy totally freaks out and the camera cuts off and then everyone is sitting around.

what is up with that???

Ash Wednesday

Actually this was explained on the radio, because someone called in and asked if he had AIDS because of that. But I don't think it was because of a disease issue, and I don't think he had AIDS -- and of course, AIDS does not spread through touch.

Apparently in some mideast circles, when you are kissing someone's hand they make an action of "pulling away" in an "I'm-not-worthy-of-your-kiss" sort of fashion. It is, apparently, an act of politeness and humility.

Don't know if that's a known fact, but it was an explanation I heard.

Hate to break it to everyone...but if ya'll think he JUST died then where is that wool?
He's been dead for a few days.
The press has been lying.
I know a few days ago they stated he died and then recanted and then stated it again and recanted. Thats when I said a prayer for the reprose of his soul.
Funny (not ha,ha funny) that he died and SUDDENLY all these arrangements were like...RIGHT THERE AND READY TO GO...all the while though they were saying that they didnt know how long he would be here alive ...the poor dude was gone.

Yeah, I know it has nothing to do with the thread. Just loosening up my stiff fingers and doing some random typing here.
Sorry.
Mia Culpa.
Yep, totally irreverant... it made me laugh. Then I said a prayer for the repose of his soul. Its all good. ;)
Well, the irreverence I was expressing wasn't really towards Arafat as much as it was more meant to be directed towards all the press speculation and how silly it was:

"Sources say he has died."
"Palestinian authorities denied reports that he has died"
"He's not dead... look! We've got him sitting up in his jammies!"
"We are now reporting that he has slipped in a coma."
"French hospital officials are reporting that he has awaken from his coma..."

I saw several premature message board postings that he had died...

So when he finally died I meant to put it as bluntly as possible.

Very good.

Someone must have made an observation on him because for several days we had a superposition of an alive Arafat and a dead Arafat. (See Schrodinger's Cat)

Oh, I understand totally, I wasn't offended. :)

I heard on the local news that the US might do something to help them establish a strong government over there, but I hope we dont. We need to learn in America to let countries handle their own problems, not be a police officer.
