Guest jrob8503
I work part-time as a service clerk for Walgreens. The only thing worse than customers who come in 5 minutes before close, grab a cart, the ad and proceed to leisurely browse the store, are those who get angry when you are closed. The pharmacy closes at 5pm on weekends, and people will drop in a 6 to pick up a prescription. You tell them the location of the nearest 24-hour pharmacy and they give you some comment like, "Well what good is that gonna do me?". I've managed to deal with rude and inconsiderate customers very well, but I can only be stepped on so much. One of these days I'm just gonna go off the edge. Hopefully, it will be for a good reason. Work smells of elderberries, that's why you have to get a good education, so you don't have to work for the man. Because the man is why work smells of elderberries so much. Edited October 7, 2003 by jrob8503
Lil Red
Prayer for Success in Work Glorious St. Joseph, model of all those who are devoted to labor, obtain for me the grace to work conscientiously, putting the call of duty above my many sins; to work with thankfulness and joy, considering it an honor to employ and develop, by means of labor, the gifts received from God; to work with order, peace, prudence and patience, never surrendering to weariness or difficulties; to work, above all, with purity of intention, and with detachment from self, having always death before my eyes and the account which I must render of time lost, of talents wasted, of good omitted, of vain complacency in success so fatal to the work of God. All for Jesus, all for Mary, all after thy example, O Patriarch Joseph. Such shall be my motto in life and death. Amen.
notbilln
* Raises hand* Sorry, I tend to do this a great deal. I have worked some very strange hours in the past that did not allow me to get into most stores until just before they closed. But try buying things you need when you're working third shift and half of second ? I mean it was a real effort just to get to church every sunday. I did get locked in a Sam Goody store once, but thery really could have annonced the store was closeing or something. But now I guess I have no more excuses, and I really haven't done it that much as a result. I'm not saying that my lfe is more important than the employees, but are theirs neccisarily more important than mine? Several times my Mom had to RUN to the store before it closed to get medicine for one of us sick children( we only had one car and my dad worked from 8 am till 8 pm regularly). I mean I know the employees have to get back to their families, but don't lock out a worried mother. I've often stayed late at work helping a customer fix a problem with our software. I don't enjoy it, but if they really need me, I can't say no. Its just not in me to say I won't help you out in an emergency. But then, there are other people that call about problems that are obviously not an emergency right at 4:59. I usually have to explain to them that it is not an emergency, and it won't hurt anything to wait until the morning. Of course, sometimes it takes an hour or two to determine if its an emergency or not. I don't mean to put down anyoen else that has previoulsy posted, I'm just saying that it depends, and often what is the most important to us, is not the most important to everyone else. Mrs. Bro. Adam
It's not so much that they come at the last minute as much as because they come at the last minute that I have to be at work an extra hour before I can catch the bus to go home. Most of these people don't even try to hurry at all. I've had people come in at 5 after6, after the store's closed. And then by the time I tell them I'm closed, I've missed the bus anywayz!!! Oh well....such is the life as shipping clerk! ;)
