ThomasPeter
is Mel Gibson an apostate? i have read and heard rumors he is apart of an "anti-Vatican II" group, im guessing SSPX but dont know. i have also heard he migt be in some dissagrement with his Father over this. most of what i have heard and read and saw is just fractured quoates and "facts". he has been on EWTN many times... and i wouldnt think Mother Angelica woudl allow a heritic on the station (she has said that before about other people). so im just wondering about him or where he stands. thanks! Pio Nono
JMJ 11/8 - Bl. John Duns Scotus ThomasPeter, Unfortunately, I can't give you a direct answer about Mr. Gibson, as I don't know enough about his situation - the only Gibsons I know anything about make guitars. However, an apostate is one who formally rejects Christianity once having held it to be true. For instance, if I am a firm Catholic and, one day, I decide to reject Catholicism for atheism, I've become an apostate. If I reject Catholicism for something like the SSPX, I've placed myself in schism - I'm still Christian, and my sacraments are valid, but I don't enjoy full unity with Rome. Hope this helps.
