Guest Aluigi Posted November 7, 2004 Share Posted November 7, 2004 (edited) the notion that the two things that should never be discussed are religion and politics because someone is going to get offended is wrong. they are two of the most important things and the only reason that notion exists is because our fragile society wants to think it's united by pretending it is without really hashing out their differences. we should be arguing over the big issues in the world, even if it offends people. therefore, let's keep talking. if you cannot control your emotions, don't go into the political threads. but these are some of the most important things in the world being discussed, we have to hash out our differences and arrive at the Truth. society needs to stop pretending its differences don't matter and start trying to iron out its differences. btw, this isn't going away for a while. the next four years will be full of political, philisophical, and religious wars of words. it's scary, it's intense, but it's needed for the welfare of the country. abortion is moving center stage, creationism is moving center stage, homosexuality is moving center stage, America is at war, Europe has fundamentally different ideas and philosophies than America, both are in some ways contrary to Catholic Teaching... arguments will become increasingly hostile, we need to be ready get ready, toughen up... because the fragile pluralistic society we're living in isn't going to hold up. it was a fantasy world. My point is simply that there are an obscene amount of political threads and they are taking kinda taking over the open mic board. I think they should be condensened. StColette Posted November 7, 2004 Share Posted November 7, 2004 I think the point Chelsea was trying to make is that the political threads seem to be causing a lot of anger, I've stepped in a few times to quiet things down in certain political threads because people were forgetting for a moment that losing one's temper isn't going to help the situation at all and sometimes the lack of charity in political threads is unbearable. The point is we should not be bickering among ourselves on this board over political differences but rather coming together as Catholics. Yeah we all have the right to rant about politcal things that just completely tick us off, but we need to do so in a respectable manner. You've missed the point, there everywhere, you go into open mic and it's like ALL politics. What seems like it's not politics turns into it or already is.
