homeschoolmom
Well, I dunno... RussianGirl was Orthodox and she only had to meet with the priest and talk... She did go to RCIA, though (of her own choice) in a Latin Rite parish (which is her parish of choice)... In other words, she's technically an Orthodox convert to the Eastern Rite, but she now prefers to attend the Latin Rite parish. (She wanted to be a memeber of the Latin Rite all along, but was told she couldn't-- that she had to go through the Eastern Rite)...
drewmeister2
Why couldn't she be Eastern Rite?
homeschoolmom
Why couldn't she be Eastern Rite?
She could. She became interested in Catholicism via this particular parish and priest.

Theoketos
Yes, converts need to be catachized, but I am not sure how each rite differs in their initiation.
drewmeister2
Oh, ok. I wonder if they do in fact have to go through RCIA to be Eastern Rite, or if that is only for Latin Rite...

Sanvean
I *believe* the Eastern Rites use the methods traditional to their own tradition. For instance, I *believe* a Ukrainian Catholic would go through a lengthy catechumenate, like they do in a Russian or Ukrainian Orthodox parish, but not through the RCIA.
