Ohhh....my..... :o
Poor Mr. Myztiq is so sadly misinformed on so many fronts...
Where to begin? :(
Let's begin with "It will NEVER happen." That's what the liberals said about a Bush re-election.
I don't recall Bush saying that he was going to "reach out" to those who share our goals, but he sure did say that he was going to stay the course and get the job done...And that's why WE reached, pulled his lever, and re-elected him for four more years.
I'm sorry that you disagree with the majority of American voters, but that's the way a democracy works. You get your say at the polls, and the majority wins.
Who is WE?

I know! The on-the-call Christians!

Good.

Bush will further divide this country. Much of his conservative base is against Specter because like ignorant people say it "he is pro-abortion" OMG! He is going to lead the world into pure chaos and disaster!

Grow up. Take that blind fold off your eyes. What kind of a country would put their faith on a candidate over something like abortion? That is just sad. Sad that an issue that shouldn't and will never concern religious driven groups.

My plumber is anti-abortion. Maybe we should elect HIM as president!
If the Dems want to start winning seats and elections, they had better change some of their views to be more mainstream...Funny that you used the words Dumb Donkey, cause that is what I think everytime I hear Democrats whine about how stupid the rest of America is.
Maintstream huh?

Funny how all a guy has to do is flash a cross across your face and you instantly see him as God.

No good has ever come from a religious driven government. None.

Spain, England...NONE.
What must be proven is that Specter's appointment will benefit the pro-life movement. His record speaks for itself. He believes abortion to be a constitutional right. Even if he has approved at one [point or another of low level pro-life judges and even to some extent (begrudgingly) approved them at higher level, there is no way he will do so with SC appointments given the fact that a slight shift on the court will (or can) end legal abortion in this country, or at the very least, in many states. THere is too much on the line. There are others who are pro-life, who if appointed to that position, would most certainly approve properly qualified judges (who are also pro-life).

What would be the harm in putting a pro-lifer in that position? Bush has a moral mandate from the country. It is the pro-life issue, more than any other, that won him re-election. Compromising on this issue will be disastrous. If Specter decides he wants to jump ship, then let him. If the solid republicans are firm (in other words, if the famously spineless Republican senators will actually grow a spine) they can get pro-life judges through. After a while, when highly qualified judges are being turned down one after another (if such a thing would happen, though I don't believe it would) it would become obvious to the public that the only reason is the fact that these men are pro-life. This will not fair well for those who are sabotaging the president. There, how's that for speculation.

Smartest person I've *read* to date.

Don John of Austria

Anna we have had 30 years of Moderates in charge, and we have had 30 years of death. Moderate is just a word meaning " I really don't care about anything other than staying in power". What we need is a zealot, someone who will not compromise on the subject no matter what way the wind is blowing.

SirMyztiq, please don't take this as an insult, but the fundamental problem here as I see it is that you have no comprehension of what an abortion is. I'm not condemning you for that, because I have the same problem -- even now, even as a pro-lifer, I still have trouble relating to the unborn child and thinking of him or her as a human being, even though I know intellectually that it's true. It's because I don't have much experience with babies, I never had any younger brothers and sisters and I don't have any younger cousins, I've just not been exposed to babies. And I don't have any of my own. So it's difficult for me to think of the unborn child as a human being, even when I see the pictures that demonstrate that an unborn child is clearly a human being. This is a difficult problem for me that I'm trying to overcome by learning more about unborn life, about abortion, and by reading Psalm 139. But it will most likely take me a long time to overcome the problem. In the meantime, I've given my intellectual assent to the Church's teaching because I know it to be true even if I can't personally relate to it.

Let me see if I can help you with this. Science has proven that human life does begin at conception -- when fertilization occurs, cells begin to split and then multiply, and as they continue to multiply the organism grows and begins to exhibit all the qualities that we think of as human. I know that sounds very clinical, so let me try to put it in more human terms.

- At the moment of fertilization, the new human being carries with him as much information as could be found in 50 sets of a 33-volume encyclopedia. All of this information will determine physical characteristics, as well as some degree of his intelligence and personality. At fertilization, the material is already there, immediately.

- On day 2, the new baby is three cells big. His cells will continue to divide as he makes his way to his mother's womb where he'll get the vital nutrition that he needs to grow.

- On day 6-7, before most mothers even have any idea they're pregnant, the new baby's cells differentiate and start performing circulatory, muscular, neural and skeletal functions.

- Day 14 is when most mothers will realize they're pregnant, when they miss their first menstrual period and implantation in the womb is complete. By this time, the new baby has already developed basic human bodily functions.

- By day 20, heart, brain, spinal column and nervous system are almost complete. Eyes have begun to form.

- On day 22, his heart starts beating.

- By day 28, our new baby is approximately 1/4 inch long. That makes him ten thousand times larger than he was three weeks before. The blood flowing in his veins on day 28 is totally different from his mother's -- he's not part of her body, he is a human being inside her body.

- By week 4, musculature is developing and the buds of arms and legs become visible. Just one month after conception, the baby is already to the point that we would consider human -- his own heart is beating, his own blood is pumping, his own arms and legs are forming, his nervous system is already complete.

- By week 5, his face is taking shape. His forehead, eyes, nostrils and mouth are plainly evident. External ears are popping up. Hand and foot plates appear in the limb buds.

- By week 6, the baby's brainwaves can be recorded. His muscles start working together.

- By week 8, fingers and toes are defined, and finger prints have been imprinted on the baby's fingers. All of the organs, with the exception of the lungs, are now present and working.

- By weeks 9-10, all areas of the baby's body are sensitive to touch. Unborn babies at this stage have been recorded sucking their thumbs. They swallow, they squint, they frown, they pucker their brow. If the new baby's palm is stroked, he'll make a tight fist.

- By weeks 11-12, he now has fingernails, toenails and taste buds that work. He can make every facial expression we can make -- and he smiles.

- By week 13, the doctor can identify the sex, although that was already determined at conception.

- By month 4, the baby's heart is pumping six gallons of blood on a daily basis. He's kicking inside his mother's womb, which indicates the traditional stage of pregnancy known as "quickening." Doctors can record Rapid Eye Movement, meaning that he is dreaming inside his mother's womb.

- By months 5-6, he weighs about a pound and he's a foot long. If he were born right now, he would have a 50% chance of living.

- In months 7-8, he can open and close his eyes and recognize his mother's voice. His weight increases and baby fat smoothes out his skin. If he's born now, his chance of surviving is 90%.

- In month 9, he'll release hormones to trigger labor, and he'll be welcomed into the world as the unique individual that God made at the moment of fertilization. He has always been that person; now we're just welcoming him out into the open where we can see him.

Now, let me tell you about abortion.

- At any point in the first three months, the unborn baby can be killed using suction aspiration or dilation and curretage. What this means is that a baby who already has the traits that will determine his physical characteristics and much of his personality, a baby whose body is performing basic human functions, a baby whose heart has started beating, can be either sucked out of his mother's womb and dismembered, or dismembered inside the mother's womb and his body parts removed.

- At any point after 24 weeks, dilation and evacuation can be used. Put simply, this means that a baby who is about a foot long and weighs a pound, who has a 50% chance of living outside his mother's womb, can be dismembered inside the mother's womb using forceps. In this process, the baby's head must be crushed because the skull bone has hardened.

- And then there are the babies in the third trimester, who many Democratic Senators, including John Kerry, voted should be able to be killed. They can be killed using partial-birth abortion, salt poisoning, prostaglandins, or hysterectomy. Put very bluntly, this means that a baby with a 90% chance of living outside his mother's womb, who is inarguably fully human, who can hear his mother's voice and recognize it, who can smile and dream like we can -- this baby can be partially born and have scissors stuck into his head so that the "doctor" can remove his brain; he can be burnt up using salt in the amniotic fluid, which takes up to an hour to kill the baby and puts him in intense pain; he can be injected with hormones to induce premature labor, which usually crushes him; or he can be fully delivered by C-section and then brutally murdered by the "doctor." Mind you, he can live on his own -- but they kill him anyway.

When we talk about abortion, this is what we're talking about. You needed to know, and we all do.
