Brother Adam
When ever we put our own will above the will of Christ we are in danger of becoming unloyal to his bride, the Church in the form of Protestantism, ultra-traditionalistism, or even lukewarmness, which I consider the gravest position to be in. Budge
Werent your saints those who DID dissent from leaders who went wrong like St. Catherine of Siena. I know trad Catholics and they say unthinking obedience was not the name of the game in earlier times. I have noticed that other Catholics here get a harder time then Protestants. Socrates
Man, i do not like being called 'conservative' or 'traditional' or 'right-winged' or 'orthodox'...IM JUST CATHOLIC. Christ found no 'right-winged Church' on Peter so i ain't a part of it. Political terms like that just create factionism which is a tool of the devil to divide and conquer.
"Orthodox"just means in adherence to the teachings of the Church. All Catholics should be orthodox Catholics and I am proud to call myself an orthodox Catholic. Terms like "conservative" or "right-wing" and "neo-con" have political connotations, implying that orthodox Catholic dogma is just another political opinion in the broad spectrum of Catholic opinion. This, of course, is false. One either stands with the Church's teaching or against it, no matter what one labels himself or his opponents.
Socrates
So, I guess I'm not the only one labeling it as "neo-con"... I suppose that not only Traditionalists but also most other Catholics use the same term (it seems that only the neo-cons don't like the term).
I have been Catholic all my life, went to an orthodox Catholic College, in which some people are of a "Traditionalist" bent, but have never heard the term "neo-con" used in a religious context before being on this web-site. Nor has anyone I know heard it used this way. Loyal Catholics never call themselves "neo-cons," nor does the Church call anyone this. It seems to be a term coined (though borrowed from secular politics) and used solely by people of certain particular brand of "Traditionalism" (you use that term to refer to yourselves, right?) to slander those loyal to the Pope. yiannii
I know using labels is not something that is considered politically correct - but in these circumstances I think it is important to be able to distinguish between people with different religious standards. It is a shame that labels are needed even within Catholicism but that is what Satan wants - division!
qfnol31
Labels are things people give themselves. There is breathing room for people to be themselves in the Church, but people want to either limit this too much or take it too far. In that case, it's either heteronomy or autonomy (respectively), which isn't so much a label as more of a belief (heresy?).
