KnightoftheRosary
All right I said it. I really don't like saying my deepest darkest falts and failings to a priest. But in reality talk about a beautiful sacrament. Oh my gosh it is so incredible to think about. No offenses to any non catholics on the board but you really don't know what your missing. Talk about an amazing thing, and another thing that I want to talk about. We need more priest to stand up and say " hey I have heard every sin in the world, this is my job and don't worry their is nothing you've done that I havn't heard, so please don't worry about telling me what you've done. |What do you all think. yiannii
Yes I guess that you are correct! I plan on going to Confession tonight and I know it will be tough. I think one thing that is important to remember is that when you are confessing to a priest, you aren't necessarily confessing to the priest, you are confessing to Jesus. I find it makes things a little bit easier if I use an examination of conscience and make a list of my sins. Anyway, KnightoftheRosary thank you for your post - it has encouraged me to go to Confession tonight!
azaelia
Confession is like waxing your legs...it hurts, but your legs are really smooth afterwards... Ok...bad analogy. It sounded good in my head :leave:
AfroNova No Limit Soldier
Sister Briege (sp??), a sister very involved in the Charismatic movement & a very popular speaker & writer said that: Confession is where the most miracles occur. Dude, in June I went to Confession in Fatima. My confessor was Fr. hot stuff. Bless him! Yes Confession is scary. Dude saying my sins aloud in my own room by myself is scary. But Confession is oooh sooo wonderful, especially if you have a wonderful Confessor. Blessed be God!
Sinner
I love Confession....... to be clean again. I prefer the screen, on my knees.
AfroNova No Limit Soldier
BTW Knight of the Rosary I love your quote from St. Theresa of Avila. I've never heard it before. I will write it down and make it a point in my life. Consider myself served. Bless you!

Birgitta Noel
I generally prefer face to face, but the other night while I was traveling in Philly I ended up on my knees behind the screen. The siloutte (I can't spell tonight) of the priest's face and his rosary in hand made such an impression on me. Sigh, I need to go again (too soon, shame on me!). I wish I had a regular confessor here. Urgh, something else to add to my list of things to do. Maybe I'll go hunt down the priest at the law school tomorrow. -_-
Balthazor
No confession is like housekeeping..... Think about it, if someone important, like the president, the pope, or your mother were coming to your house you would want it to be clean, right? In the same way when you go up to receive the holy Eucharist, you are inviting Christ into yourself, and you would not want to invite Him into a dirty house, or an unclean temple. When you go to confession you are housekeeping, all that is unclean is washed away. Your house is clean enough to invite in royalty!! It is like that first spring day when it is warm enough to open the window and air out the house, everything is fresh and new and you got another chance........ I only wish I could convey how wonderful this sacrament is....so many people neglect it. Peace, Balthazor
Balthazor
Mine are always face to face..... my priest would know who it is anyway....I am kinda loud and trust me people know when it is me talking.....it doesn't show through when I type But I figure that even though I have done some really bad things.....really really bad things.....I know people who have done worse and it didn't change my opinion of them. Christina
Wow... I love going to Confession. I go at least once a month... It's a time of cleansing and renewing my commitment to Jesus of love and surrender. When I hear the words of Absolution, I am usually tearful by the time it's over. To think that Jesus has forgiven me and wiped the slate clean is very humbling. I think it's "one" of the most loving Sacraments that Jesus left for us. I have to laugh some times tho... not too long ago, I went to Confession and we had a visiting Priest. For my Penance, he told me to "keep on truckin." azaelia
Mine are always face to face..... my priest would know who it is anyway....I am kinda loud and trust me people know when it is me talking.....it doesn't show through when I type But I figure that even though I have done some really bad things.....really really bad things.....I know people who have done worse and it didn't change my opinion of them.
My main reason for going behind the screen is not because I don't want the priest to recognize me (the priest I confess to doesn't know me anyway), it's more a matter of attitude for me. When I'm behind the screen, kneeling, I feel more like repentant sinner than when I'm sitting in a chair facing the priest, which makes me feel like a patient asking a doctor for advice. This is how I feel about it, so I don't expect anyone else to agree with me. We all have our preferences
cappie
Speaking as a priest, I can say that it is no easier for me to go to confession than anyone else. It is most unfortunate that many people have adopted a mindset that they do not need to go to Confession. Many say "I just tell my sins to God and he forgives me." There is on the part of such persons a failure to recognize that the sacrament of Penance is not an invention of the Church. Rather, the sacrament of Penance is Christ's gift to the Church to ensure the forgiveness he so generously extends will be made available to every member of the Church. In the sacrament of Penance, the contrite sinner comes before Christ in the person of the priest who hears the sins, imposes a penance and absolves the sinner in the name and by the power of Christ. The sinner comes before the merciful judgment of God and approaches the Lord in sorrow, admitting guilt before his representative. It is in the person of Christ that the priest hears the confession of guilt. It is in the name of Christ that the priest pronounces the Saviour’s mercy: "I absolve you from your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." Once a man went to confession to the great St Anthony of Padua. This man had committed many sins, but now was very sorry. He felt so bad about having offended God that he could not even talk. Even though he was a grown man he cried and cried. St.Anthony said to him,” You may write your sins down on a piece of paper, if you want.” The man agreed and he wrote all his sins on a sheet of paper. Then he handed it to St. Anthony. The saint began to read it. The man noticed that as the saint read the lines disappeared. Each sin disappeared from the paper as the saint read it. When he had finished reading, the paper was all white again. There was not one sin left on it. God had made this special miracle to show how our souls look after a good confession, no sins are left Jesus takes them away
Birgitta Noel
Wow, Cappie. Your post was powerful for so many reasons. Thanks for your insights. -_-
Birgitta Noel
Yes, Balthazor you are correct. I wasn't trying to imply that it was a burden to go to confession or that it was just another thing to do. I was refering to finding a regular confessor here as another "something to do". That's something that takes time and lots of prayer.
