The Democratic party of Humphrey (who ran in '68) and the Democratic party of McGovern (who ran in '72) are different creatures. The party has not been the same since McGovern...

does anyone know the statistics for Catholics in Maryland? During colonial times, this was the only state in the union that was established where Catholics could freely practice. And this year the state went to catholic in name only Kerry. :(

My dad is democrat, but votes pro life. My state has a democrat senator that's our former governor - and I think he votes almost 100% pro life, so all hope isn't lost.

Of course if Kerry had actually been on the moral side of things.....he was just out of touch with people, especially Catholics. Being "personally" opposed isn't enough. And being an altar boy doesn't make you Catholic. ;)

If I had to define myself politically, I'm a conservative Democrat, too. Pro-life and against gay marriage, so I'm forced to vote Republican.

I'm rooting for the conservative Dems out there. They're probably chiming to their party "You need morals -- Told you so!"

I wonder if all the celebrities and secular bands, as well as the mainstream media would still support Kerry if he was pro-life and wanted to keep marriage only between a man and a woman, but kept all his other policies.

It's possible, but I sort of doubt it.

God bless,

The entertainment elite would probably not support him. They would condemn him as being "narrow-minded." <_< I think the Anti-Bushness would help generate extra momentum though. Like the cherry on the sundae.

I posted this on another website and I thought you might all like to read it.
CEB, I'll be right there with you abandoning the party for the Constitutions if the social conservative agenda doesn't move to the forefront. This is the Republican's last chance. If they don't get it done now, or at least take significant steps in that direction, they have no one to blame but themselves. I think they realize that as well. I'm glad to say that Catholics supported Bush 51-48 over Kerry, the first time Catholics have supported a Republican in I don't know how long. That number will only get bigger if the dems stay so far to the left on social issues.

In all seriousness, the dems can do some things to straighten their party out, the Republicans already took care of one of them for them.

1. Get rid of Tom Daschle. This may be the best thing that happened to the dems this week. As long as Daschle was the face of the democratic party, they were in trouble.

2. Get rid of Terry McCauliffe (sp?). He didn't win in 2000 for you guys, he got you smoked in 2002, and he got your party pummeled in 2004. If the dems want to win, you have got to can Terry.

3. Stop sending Bill Clinton out. The guy is a has-been and the American people get more sick and tired of him every time they see him.

4. Do not make Hillary the face of your party. If you plan on running her in 2008, it will be a 1984 Reaganesque landslide. Most of America will not vote for her because she is a woman, they will vote against her because she is a liberal. of the 50+million that voted for John Kerry, half of them said they did it more as a vote against Bush. That means about 25 million people out of over 100 million voted FOR John Kerry, the most liberal senator in the United States Senate.

5. Start listening to people lake Sen. Miller and Gov. Casey. There are many conservatives who have abandoned your party because you have become to liberal. Zell is trying to tell you guys something. You will NEVER have a chance in the south, west, and increasingly in the midwest if you keep moving left.

I am saying this in all seriousness because as partisan as I am, I do not think a one-party system is a good thing to have. Eventually, you guys will have to come back to the center, or the Republicans will be more of a dominant party than they already are. If the dems don't come back from the fringe left, I think within 50 years, the reps will split into fiscal conservative/social conservative wings and they will be the two major parties.
So, if it was between bush and a more conservative kerry, neither of them would get more support from the media than the other?
