If you believe the cutting down of trees is gravely immoral, then you clearly have not lived long enough... or you're just a tree-hugging commie. Tell me, how about the millions of abortions that have happened in this country? The modern holocaust?

What is gravely immoral... trees being cut down? Or innocent babies being murdered?
I dislike Bush, and I obviously dislike Kerry for reasons of faith.

I, however, have to disagree with you Paladin. How is cutting down a national forest for profit not immoral when you have other options at your disposal? Rather than supporting urban renewal, Bush's environmental policies promote destruction of the planet (and ultimately, the lives of its inhabitants), urban sprawl, ghettoization, etc. Calling somebody who thinks the meaningless destruction of the planet God gave us stewardship of is bad a 'tree hugging commie' is just plain insulting because thats the group I fall into.

I'm not even going to get into how surprised I am that somebody on Phatmass would call somebody they've never talked to once in their life an Idiot. Where's the love?

key word in paladin's quote there is GRAVE. it is not gravely immoral, thought it is immoral (cuz we need to be worthy stewards of God's creation)

idiot comment probably out of line

I guess the difference then Crusader is that cutting down trees for profit may indeed be immoral.

but is it an intrisic evil? No its not, so too compare the two is apples and oranges

I wasn't comparing the two, obviously Abortions are more grave. I was offended by his lack of respect for the environment and the people who do respect it.

Raphael,

Kudos to you chap!

I could not have said it better myself!

I do notice however, he who started this post has not replied or defended his "Idiot award*" winning post.

* I would like to pay recognition to the "poster" who awarded him (or her) with that cherished award... Good One!

I did not post for pride.

" But you, brothers, do not be remiss in doing good." -2 Thessalonians 3:13

qfnol31 is correct. Charity comes first. Let's not award lack of charity.

Would you like my tips for the holes?

I didn't mean to sound so condemning...I just knew there were some problems with this thread in general on that matter.
I could type out a long post ranting about Kerry, but I'll let you keep the Idiot award.

I agree. You are not Catholic. You are a heretic and have by your own means excommunicated yourself.

Those that called you an idiot only gave back exactly what you seem to have just admitted giving us: stereotypes.

lol. Hrm....Depends on how long the troll lasts I suppose.
just weighing my options man..

You have heard that it was said, "An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth."  But I say to you, offer no resistance to one who is evil.  When someone strikes you on your right cheek, turn the other one to him as well.  If anyone wants to go to law with you over your tunic, hand him your cloak as well.  Should anyone press you into service for one mile, go with him for two miles.  Give to the one who asks of you, and do not turn your back on one who wants to borrow.

You have heard that it was said, "You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy."  But I say to you, love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your heavenly Father, for he makes his sun rise on the bad and the good, and causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust.  For if you love those who love you, what recompense will you have?  Do not the tax collectors do the same?  And if you greet your brothers only, what is unusual about that?  Do not the pagans do the same?  So be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect.

Can I make a suggestion that this thread be moved to the debate table ?
It shouldn't be moved. It should be closed. A warning should be issued to the original poster for his ad hominem attacks, and then warnings should be issued to the people listed above, too.

Our commitment to the commands of Christ, all of them, including the one I quoted above, is not suspended because it's election day. The reaction to the original poster, however offensive he may have been, seriously lacked in even a little bit of charity. Those who were involved should be ashamed of themselves.

Paladin was wrong to say that.

I'm not sure that Adam was incorrect. The original poster claimed deism and claims it still on his profile. That is a formal rejection of the faith. However, we don't know the poster's mind and will.

I stated nothing but the truth. Blunt, perhaps, but true, honest, and lacking any and all rude terms. Saying that a person is using stereotypes is not a personal attack.

Troll is a common chatroom and blog term for people who make posts for the sheer purpose of offending others and bringing up off-topic and "beating the dead horse" threads. Despite its traditional connotations, it is in proper context.

I merely found the term "idiot award" humorous after reading pages of serious discussion.

Warn me if you see fit... but I will forgive you!
