Eucharistic Exposition/Benediction

Okay, so it's 1:30 am and if I don't get my terms right, please don't jump all over me, because I'm not even exactly sure what the deal was, yo. But I wanted to share the love.

This month our parish has had special Rosary Devotions on Sundays. I had never prayed the Rosary in public before, and since the last one was today, I was like, "I am going to go check this out." (Learn something new about Catholicism every day.) So I go in, and I'm sort of following along (not really sure what's happening), but the priest is kneeling with his back to us and I'm like, "What is this all about?" (I don't know if this is commonly done, or if Father was having an old-school moment, as he sometimes does)

So then there's this smooth segue into the Rosary, which I know pretty well, so that made sense. I honestly can't remember the order of what went on, but Fr. must have placed the host in the exposition-thingy (I always think of it as a Sun-on-a-Stand--I love it!) prior to the Rosary (??). And there was incense. And I was like, Whoa. Something is going on here.

So THEN (later) Fr. does the sign of the cross and sings Kyrie Eleison while lifting the host-in-Sun (I assume this is the "exposition"?). And I'm overwhelmed with the presence of the Lord, and the love of Christ, and it was just

WHOA!!!

That's the best I can describe it. :-) It was profound (even though I think I sound like a surfer-dude right now).

I've been thinking about it all day.

The Eucharist is what drew me (inexorably) to the Church. I have intellectual and emotional assent to the Real Presence. But it (He) was definitely brought home to me today.

COOLNESS!

LOL, hsmom! No, I wasn't at Adoration all this time. ("Monstrance"--thanks!)

I've been busy with work stuff, and my sister-in-law had a baby (girl, so cute!) and my best friend got married (I was in the wedding), and...

I've pretty much dropped out of all my internet communities the last 3 months or so.

It's good to hear from you. :-)

Hehehe...I'm glad you got such consolation out of the experience. The exposition is when the Eucharist is visibly exposed in the monstrance (from the Latin monstrare-to show). The benediction is the blessing at the end. :)
