popestpiusx
We cannot reduce the Faith to just laws and moral norms. There is a reason we do things the way we do, and it is greater than laws.
That makes no sense.

Theoketos
Nathan, I really admire you soley material cooperation with evil, and your refusal to formally cooperate with it. It shows a real formation of conscience and a well developed intellect. If the world had more people like you in it, we would be alot better off. btw, I do not think this is blind faith (there is too much reason behind your words), but true humility on your part. qfnol31
That makes no sense.
You said you're not bound by any moral norms to vote for Bush. My response is, that's true, but moral law (norms) is only the third of four levels of Natural Law (doesn't include Divine Law at all) and so while that's true, don't forget about applying conscience in specific instances and the whole of the Divine Law. megrc
It is a powerful letter, but I don't agree with you on many points, however I'm not one to pick a fight, so I am just going to say that I am glad you are voting for Bush but I wish that your reason was something other than just because the Church supports him.
I said that I am not not bound by any moral law, not any moral norm. Be that as it may allow me to rephrase my original statement, as it was evidently ambiguous. I am not bound by any law (Divine, Natural, or any other) whatsoever to vote for a lesser candidate simply because he has a better chance of winning. . . .I'm voting for the best candidate. What everyone else does is their problem.
Ash Wednesday
but I wish that your reason was something other than just because the Church supports him.
The Church doesn't endorse a candidate. But it does weigh the importance of issues -- abortion and euthanasia definitely being of greatest importance. If Kerry's policies didn't flunk the "global moral test" I might have been more likely to vote for him. But even the moral issues aside, I'm not sure I would feel safe with him right now where our country is at.
