geetarplayer
Realistically, I'd pray hard, because my parents are voting for him anyway, so I wouldn't be able to move. -Mark
theculturewarrior
I have pretty negative feelings about both candidates. I think 9-11 is going to play out to be our defeat. Life, liberty, and property? Does either party have these at heart? Sorry if I sound cynical. I voted pro-life. But I have no illusions of having any allies in Washington, regardless of the outcome of the election.
toledo_jesus
you know...I think that if Kerry is elected I will join the fight formally. Maybe volunteer with an organization to resist the moral decay.

geetarplayer
I'm afraid the majority of America frowns on serious Catholic candidates. When Al Smith ran in 1928 as the first Catholic candidate for president, he was subject to a lot of bigotry. One slogan stated, "A vote for Al Smith is a vote for the Pope." After he lost to Herbert Hoover, there was a joke that Smith sent a single-word telegram to the Pope: "Unpack." Of course Kennedy was Catholic, but the reason he was elected in spite of his faith was that he claimed to be "not the Catholic candidate for president. I am the Democratic Party's candidate for president who happens also to be Catholic." That's probably why Kerry isn't getting harassed because he's Catholic. America would not only not vote for a serious Catholic candidate, they would specifically vote against a serious Catholic candidate. -Mark

crusader1234
Canada isn't totally pro-life, but there are a lot more Catholics here as a percentage of the total population and being Catholic or going to a Catholic school is pretty normal actually. The thing I like about Canadian politics is that you don't vote for the Prime Minister, you vote for your Member of Parliament, Member of the Legislative Assembly, etc. So you get good representation regardless of whether or not you're party comes in first place, becuase your local representative is going to be there even if he or she isn't a member of the winning caucus. As things currently stand, the right wing has half the seats in parliament, and the left wing has the other half.

Dave
I'd really start praying hard ... but it might be better to move -- not to a different country but to an underground bomb shelter! Because if Kerry gets elected, the wrath of God will surely come down upon the U.S. and probably the rest of the world too.
