Duc_In_Altum
I used to be huge on Metallica. They were my favorite band for a long long time. Then eventually i realized their lyrics were totally whack jack and the stuff they stand for blows a fat one too. On top of that, their recent music is just awful compared to the old school tunes. I think they were goin for some kind of "new sound" in their last cd. I no longer listen to or support them. -Joe ps- i find it hard to associate Jesus with Metallica. LSW
I used to be a huge fan too. I mostly payed attention to the music and not the lyrics though. I stopped listening to them since the black album. Kirk Hammet used to be my favorite guitarist.

Socrates
I'm not a giant fan or anything, but Metallica did rock, especially in their earlier days. Most of Black and some of their later stuff's good too (I actually think James' singing improved) (I love No-leaf Clover!) What little I've heard off of St. Anger was kind of lame though. I think now they're just a bunch of middle-aged has-been-headbanger-burnouts, paying for their wild youth. As for what they stand for, I've never been able to quite figure that out! The lyrics of their later songs are for the most part rather incoherent.
DemonSlayer
I used to like them, I just don't generally like them, much anymore. They do have at least one anti-Christian song, "The God that Failed", a song that seems to be directed at the Son of God.

point5
Im not so sure the God that failed is directed at Christ I could be wrong there is the deepened nail part...I think they say alot of death and things like that for shock value and image...being a metal band in the 80s
Socrates
I read that "The God that Failed" is actually about the death of James Hetfield's mother. James' parents were devout Christian Scientists, who do not beleive in using medical treatment. Mrs. Hetfield had (I think it was cancer - can't remember) and refused any medical treatment, beleiving that prayer alone would cure her. James' father later died under similar circumstances. Apparently this is what "Until it Sleeps" is about. Apparently, a lot of Metallica lyrics are about James' struggle with (and ultimate rejection of) Christian Science beliefs. I don't remember the details, but I remeber hearing about the Christian Science beleif system. It is a very bizarre religion.
