FiZzGiG
Oooo Sccaarry!!! I get so scared of those excorism shows. It's like I think that through watching the show, I'll get possessed or something. I think it really weakens me spiritually. I watched "Amityvill II: The Possession" (it's about a house that's basically over a hellhole and a guy gets possessed) and was so scared that I carried a rosary and sang Christian songs all night. Me and my friend even had to pray together. I just get so freaked out. I vowed to never see "The Exorcist," and today it was on TV so I watched only a little of it. I've broken my vow! The one scene I caught was when the little girl is like trying to kill her mom. Quite disturbing. So even that one scene freaked me out! I'm never gonna see that full movie... I try to stay away from those movies/shows.... possessions are a shaky area. Does anyone know how people get possessed? Like is it mainly people who are into the occult or something? EEK! It's just so freaky! I need to pray now. Pax!
Thy Geekdom Come
If I could link you to footage of real exorcisms, I still wouldn't. Don't go looking for Satan. Not even the priests in exorcisms are suppose to engage Satan himself.
Guest Aluigi
i saw that too.. that psychologist was tryin to come up with explanations, but one thing he failed to explain was if any of those explanations were true, why did the exorcism succeed in curing the boy? FiZzGiG
I think that's the problem with me... I watch those exorcism type shows to see what the devil does. How he manipulates people. I guess I get interested in what happens... what does the person do when they're possessed? Proooobbbbably not a good plan. Thanks Raph! I've figured out my problem! Whew! So basically, my plan is to avoid ever watching any more exorcisms. And that is FINE with me. :thumb: I have better things to watch. Good things. Godly things. Like the sunrise. Thy Geekdom Come
It is wise to learn the ways of Satan so that we can defend ourselves if we are approached by evil at any level, but it is not wise to use such direct ways as that when we can learn his trickery from other, much less direct, observable things in the world. FiZzGiG
Yep I agree. But the fear's still there with me... like could I get possessed? Would anything that extreme happen with me? I like to think not. I don't go hangin out with the devil. I'm most def. devoted to God. But I get scared still. That's when I really need prayer. Eh. I'm gonna go pray right now actually. EcceNovaFacioOmni
I saw that show a while back I believe. That phsycologist embarrased himself. Was this the one with the little kid where the word "evil" appeared on his stomach? Anyway, if you want to learn more about exorcism I have a very informative link. No footage, just theology. You could look into reading Fr. Gabriel Amorth's (Cheif Exorcist of Rome) books on the subject: An Exorcist Tells His Story and... heyyoimjohnny
There's a good book, "Angels and Devils," that is very informative on this kind of thing. Informative on Angels, too. But it covers exorcisms and stuff. It's really scary though; it talks about the Saints who had devils appear and torment them (Cure of Ars, ect.). I've always been interested in this (a lot of the same questions you're asking, FiZzGiG) and it shed a lot of light on it.

immaculata
You could look into reading Fr. Gabriel Amorth's (Cheif Exorcist of Rome) books on the subject: An Exorcist Tells His Story
When I was a freshman, my sacraments teacher gave that book to me and told me to read it. (FOR FUN! What a weirdo.. ) It really solidified my belief in the real, physical presence of evil in our lives and made me more aware of the actions of the devil. I can see the ways that Satan tries to work against us, and recognize how the power of God can foil his plans... GREAT BOOK!

Theologian in Training
Creepy creepy creepy creepy. Okay guys I need prayers. St. Michael defend us in Battle!!!!! :swords: ~Kerry~
FiZzGiG, Original Sin notwithstanding, you need to ask yourself what has sparked such an instense curiosity in you to want explore the dangerous realm of demonic possession and Satanism. If your curiosity stems from seeing that show on exorcisms you must realize that what you saw was not something that exorcist could do himself. In other words, there is an extensive amount of preparation that goes into performing an exorcism. In fact, a couple of summers ago I had an exorcist for a spiritual director and he asserted that as such. He said he fasted days before, prayed A LOT, made sure to have certain cloistered religious orders pray for him, and bring a team of strong arms (for restraint) and a psychiatrist in with him as well. When I asked him how he does it, he simply stated that he steps out of the way in order to let Christ completely work through him. He was chosen by the metropolitan of his diocese and was given time to discern undertaking such a vocation. It wears him out, and if this man was not as humble and as holy as he is, it is safe to say that I may have never met him. Your curiosity is dangerous and he even warned me when asking him questions to be careful myself because he saw the curiosity I too exhibited. Of course, arrogance can sometimes prevail and there is a tendency to not believe him until you come to the realization that demons exist, and they are much more powerful than you. St. Pio did not call upon his angel because he needed backup when confronted with demons, he called upon his angel because he needed help and found himself oftentimes overpowered by those same demons. It is good to be aware of the spirit world, and to recognize that there are not only angels but demons as well, but it is quite dangerous to satiate your curiosity too much in those things because just as the angels know when you are calling upon them the demons know as well. Just a friendly reminder. Happy Halloween (All Hallows Eve) God Bless
