TrinityAddiction
I had never done so before, but today, at Confession, I could hardly keep myself from breaking down into tears- the priest was speaking and I didn't want to miss anything he said to the sound of me sniffling, so after confession, I walked out, and went into a bathroom, then started crying for joy, because crying for the sins that had already been forgiven seemed a waste of tears. It is a wonderful experience.
yiannii
I wish I could feel truley sorry for my sins. Usually as I am waiting in line for confession I pary to Jesus to make me truley repentant for my sins but I feel numb about it. Intellectually I am sorry but emotionally I feel nothing... Paladin D
I don't cry in the confessional I don't know why, though I am sorry for my sins, and full of joy when I leave the confessional. Something wrong with me? Usually the only time my eyes glaze and sometimes almost tear, is when the priest is giving the absolution.
TrinityAddiction
No, there isn't anything wrong with you- I mean, I never cried till this most recent confession, even though I was always sorry for my sins, and joyful afterwards, I dont know what got me this time, but, no, there isn't something wrong with you. Wow. That was one long sentence.
thats why the sacrament is so awesome, its not based on feelings or emotions--those can come and go...so its okay, for we know that even though we may not of had tears, that regardless we are forgiven.
Mr Bubble
I haven't cried during a confession, but I was very close the other day. Today I felt like poo and went into my church and had a short cry and prayer. and *poof* I felt much better. =) I love going to confession, but I hate confessing. If that makes any sense. It's so awesome, and afterwards I feel 100% better.
Ziggamafu
I've actually been hoping that I'll cry for my first confession...I feel like if I don't, he won't know how truly sorrowful I am. My teenage years carried some pretty atrocious sins. Short of murder, I believe I've committed EVERY SINGLE SIN listed @ http://www.catholicparents.org/oxcart/examination.html - literally. In fact, I can actually think of a terrible and abominable sin that I've committed that's NOT listed. The only two of the ten commandments that I havn't broken at *face value* are murder and adultery (so far as cheating on my wife with another woman). Seriously. So yeah...I'm both eager and nervous about my first confession. Most people are, so I hear. But then again the extent of most people's sin is shop-lifting or having a threesome in their frat days. Birgitta Noel
Hi Zigg, Welcome to PM. Nah, I'm willing to bet the priest you're confessing to has heard it all. I think I remember hearing somewhere that it only takes about a month of hearing confessions to have heard it all. Have you heard the saying, "There but for the grace of God go I"? All of us are capable of the worst sin at anytime. Some of us do them, myself included. Our sinfulness is a chance for us to recieve the gratuitous outpouring of the mercy of God. The worse we are the more mercy we receive. It's an amazing thing to think about. Be assured that your priest will have heard it all. Fr. Larry says that if he knows how old someone is and their state in life (ie married) and occupation, he can pretty much guess what that person will say. There is nothing new, fresh, or original about sin. But as for God, "His mercies are new every morning!" You will be in my prayers!
toledo_jesus
during the absolution, when the priest has his hand raised in blessing, there is this feeling of incredible warmth that makes my face get red. never fails.
drewmeister2
I have broken down once in Confession, and a few times in Mass, during the Consecration. I hate all the distractions though at Mass! Keeps you from truly focusing on what is going on.
Birgitta Noel
I've broken down at Mass a few times, mostly becuase I can lay it all at His feet and just let it go. -_-
mark3200
Confession, absolution and reconciliation - one of the big reasons I joined the Church. I remember as a Protestant never getting an answer to the question, "How do I know I'm forgiven?" It was extremely frustrating. Especially since all the answers seemed far too simplistic and not wholly in tune with what I was reading in the Bible. First time I went to confession, I walked out with the biggest grin I'd ever had! I KNEW I had been forgiven - I even felt the loss of a weight from my shoulders! Honestly, I don't know what I'd do without the sacraments.
Fiat_Voluntas_Tua
Our "Powers of the Soul" (Intellect, Will, Emotions) are fallen because of our nature...So Our intellect could have contrition, and our will is there, but our emotions may not be...but that is ok...Because our emotions (now on earth) aren't a good representatation of our True Emotions. So not crying when you are trully sorry is perfectly ok. Actually knowing you are sorry and not feeling it is tougher than feeling sorry.
