New Constitutional Amendment

I propose a new constitutional amendment. Before voting, every American should be required to take a quiz about what each candidate plans to do. If they cannot get above 75%, they should not be allowed to vote.

I'm serious, people should have to know about the candidate their voting for or their vote shouldn't count.

what do you think about that? when the country first started out there was restrictions on who can vote. they were probably more like money restrictions and/or race restrictions, i'm not exactly sure if i remember. but why not have education restrictions.

We're required to take a test to get the licence to operate a vehicle. We should be required to take a test to get a licence to choose the leader of the free world.

What do you say?

And if we did this, who do you think would benefit (i.e., which party do you think has more followers that don't know what the party really stands for?)?

Anyway, yeah, i think this is a good idea. Ammend the constitution.

how can they know which one has their morals or which one will be better for the economy if they don't know what they plan to do?!

I do not believe Americans should just have a random right to vote. If they want to vote they should be required to look into it a little bit. If someone has to take a test before they can drive a car so they don't endanger others' lives, shouldn't they have to take a test before they can help pick the next president of the United States which will affect lives of people all around the world?

It drives me crazy that someone can spend countless hours sorting through the issues and come to an informed decision only to have their vote canelled out by someone who based their decision on the last ad they saw on TV. Unfortunately you can not turn back the clock. The system we have now gives all citizens the right to vote - even the idiots. Anyone who tries to change that via a Const. Amend. will be labeled as every kind of bigot there is by our PC culture, and run out a town on a rail!
Pray for this country for only God can save us from ourselves!

First off my lill niece is 9 years old she hopes Bush's win cause of his morals.... and my sister and brother in law didnt talk to her about politics or nothing cause shes so young .... so if a 9 year old can understand that or whatever then

I ask again why do we need this test?..... its common sence on what it is moral and not

because it's an important decision that will affect billions throughout the world. only people willing to understand what they're voting for when they vote should be allowed to do so.

Ricky2, yeah that's definitely true.

[quote name='Aluigi' date='Oct 30 2004, 03:10 PM'] I propose a new constitutional amendment.  Before voting, every American should be required to take a quiz about what each candidate plans to do.  If they cannot get above 75%, they should not be allowed to vote.

I don't think this is neccesary only because the electoral college seems to serve as enough of a buffer already. You do make a good point, though.

Just for the record, I think if this did happen, the Republicans would benefit more than the Democrats.

You're right about that, however, that's not what Al is saying. If you pull average voter Joe Smith off the street and he's never heard of Bush or Kerry and knows nothing about their policies, there's no way for him to know whose morals are the most similar to his. Once he does, yes, it will be common sense (hopefully) for him to figure out what's good and what's not. But until the point where he is somewhat educated about the candidates and their policies, he won't have an informed opinion, and he can't decide which candidate will take actions that are in sync with his morals.

Al, my dad agrees with you he thinks those that wish to vote should have to test their knowledge on the candidates views before they are allowed to vote.

lol because those who don't vote are those who generally complain about the way things are in our society. My response to their complaining is " Well, you should have voted" Voting is a big responsibility and something that shouldn't be taken lightly nor should it be ignored. If you want something changed then you should vote. If you want to voice your opinion you should vote.

To make a responsible decision upon who you are voting for it's good to know what the candidate's stand on certain issues are. The issues that they have made clear to the entire nation. Taking a quiz would help to determine if a person is actually taking into account the stance of the candidate or if the person voting is just voting straight party ie Democrat or Republican. I know many people who vote straight party which is irresponsible because many members of each party have different takes on different issues. This is why it's good to know each candidate and what they stand for. By taking a quiz you could clearly see if you are just supporting the party or if you're supporting the candidate.

so that only informed people can vote. people that vote for someone without knowing anything about who they're voting for simply shouldn't be voting in the first place. it's to restrict the right to vote to those who know what they're voting for. if someone is voting for Kerry but doesn't know why, doesn't know what either kerry or bush stand for, then they shouldn't have the right to vote. if someone is voting for Bush but doesn't know why, doesn't know what either bush or kerry stand for, they should not have the right to vote either.
