What a morning I've had already. I called the bank to check on my account and for some reason my account is saying I'm overdrawn by quite a big amount. It shouldn't be overdrawn at all. I received a check from my University this past week, which I deposited and used part of it to pay my insurance. Well, surprise surprise when I found out why I was overdrawn. For some reason the University took back the check, after it had been cashed for 4 days. I don't know what's going on and now my account is a huge mess. I've tried calling the University to see what has taken place but all the lines are busy. If they had wanted to call back the check they should have sent a notice since I received the check on the 19th of Oct but didn't cash it until this Monday. I'm like seriously fuming right now at this whole mess. I've talked to the bank and all they can tell me is that LSU-S recalled the check for who knows what reason. Grrr if they wanted to take back the check then they should have sent out a notice when I received the check not 4 days after I have cashed it.

hmm Dad seems a little bit more angry at this than I am. The check that I receive for my Uni. is after they have take out part for left over tuition and fees that my scholarships don't cover. Well, they took out their money, and now they've taken the check back. Dad's not a happy camper right now.

How can they get permission to go into your accout and take back something already cashed?

I would have a long talk with the bank.

Exactly my point!! They shouldn't be able to take back a check that has been cashed, especially after 4 days!!!!

My dad just left out the door and said he's heading to the back

hey
if you bounced any checks etc because of the bank doing this they are liable for all the fees and letters etc to fix it, not you.

Im not a lawyer by any stretch of the imagination but....

If the check was cashed then the University had no right recalling it from the bank, especially if 4 days have passed. Since it is your bank and not the University's(right?) then YOUR bank should have immediately notified YOU that the University is attemping a recall on the check and WHY.

Basically, the University didnt recall the check but simply put a 'stop payment' on it. Any other way is illegal.
But why, and how long have you dealt with that bank? And why didnt someone at the bank call you if you have been a customer for a long time?

If it were my bank...heads would roll...and they know it. Happened once, they never called..and like Cmom said, I made them cover EVERY bounce in my account.

Will check on this for you but I think you may need to get a bit tough with your bank.

Hope it all works out for ya.

Peace.
