BeenaBobba
An Eastern Catholic friend of mine has said that the Latin Vulgate and the Douay-Rheims aren't very good translations of the Bible. He also said that the DR is no longer "endorsed" by the Catholic Church. Is this true? God bless, Jen
Pio Nono
JMJ 11/2 - All Souls BeenaBobba, I suppose it depends on what you mean by "not very good." For devotional purposes, and perhaps even liturgical purposes, the old Vulgate and the D-R Bible are just fine. However, if you are trying to do Biblical exegesis, I'd try to use either the Greek originals or, if you don't know Greek, a newer translation that utilizes the Greek. As far as "endorsement", the only Bible that is officially "endorsed" is the Greek original, for it is the Greek that is inspired. Hope this helps.
