skuba steve
if you weren't catholic and were curious about catholics - maybe not in becoming one yourself, maybe you caused a bit of a stir among them -, and you came to this place... what opinion of the catholic church would you be likely to form based on the people here that represent it? really think about it and answer really honestly. Anna
*beats breast* Oh Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner. I wouldn't think much about anyone in particular; I'd just decide whether or not I was comfortable and welcome. Then, I'd begin dialoguing or move on... I'm pretty sure, though, that I would leave the judging and testing of souls up to God. Pax Christi. <><

foundsheep
Although it does get argumentive, I really think the point gets accross. At least it has for me on questions I still have.

I think I'd think that the Church is made up of people who don't pick and choose and are firm in their beliefs. I'd also think the Church is made up of people who's personalities may contradict my own, but individual personalities have nothing to do with what the Church teaches. God bless. jasJis
Steve, Some of the people here I cannot relate to and just make me mad. If I truthfully want to learn, I'd spend some time to get to know some people that I can communicate with. I went through that when I was trying to find God again and I was a lapsed Catholic. I was willing to be open, but as soon as I told some people I was "kinda" Catholic, all I got was carp about how wrong I was. I ignored them because I knew I was getting some spiritual benefits from being Catholic. I found other Protestants that shared God and Jesus with me and they were open to how I also knew God in Catholicism. I grew in Faith and embraced Catholicism because of wanting to know God. Some of my Protestant friends embraced their Faith more because of sharing with me. If we Grow in our desire to know, love, and serve God, it's good. I'm Catholic on purpose, not by accident or weight of somebody's arguement. jasJis
IXpenguin21
i'd see a community that represents everything humanity is... God's creation searching for the truth of their creator. when the nature of the environment is of that magnitude, what can you expect but explosive reactions to someone deliberatly trying to 'stur up' people? you standing next to a sleeping lion, do you step on it's tail and critisize it for being upset? Kilroy the Ninja
That's a good question and a hard one for me to answer since I am a cradle Catholic. Even when I thought myself agnostic at best I still considered myself a Catholic. And when I wondered into wicca I thought I could still stand on the foundation of my Catholism. I think this would be a place to come looking for answers and to talk to real people who have no agenda towards me asking questions - other than to tell me the truth as they have been taught. notbilln
Ok, I've only been here a week. So maybe I haven't seen the "darkside" of phatmass yet. The closets I've seen to a personal attack was .. ScubaSteve's reply to dave in "Does God Speak to you". But he's not catholic. ANd instead of directly attacking Steve, Dave responed, along with dUst in a very mature manner. I've been around the internet block a few times( since 89) there is something about communicating in this type of posted message board that causes arguments that simply wold not happen in people were talking face to face. This by far a much geltler, more respectful buliten board than 99% of those that have ever existed. Aside from the greatly reducded amought of negitivity, there also exists a great deal of unconditional Love. Again, I've only been here a week, but I have alreadly been felt the great amount of Love that people here have for each other. So if they have ahad experience with this kind of media, I would think that they would be fairly impressed. Honestly.

BLAZEr
Maybe its just me . . . but I never take anything personally on the internet. I realize others do, so I apologize when I might have said something that was taken in the wrong way, but seriously . . . I think most people are WAY too sensitive. SkubaSteve seems like a jerk to me on the boards. In real life I'm sure he's a great guy with friends. But too be honest, I never really get all that peeved at what he says. I just take it for granted that most people see his posts the way I do . . . But I also think that SkubaSteve and I would get along great in real life. Where he would be intimidated by my large muscular build . . . LOL :P
willguy
Steve, reverse the question. Let's say you grew up Catholic, in a Catholic family, in a Catholic town and never knew anything about Protestantism. You come here and see the Protestants here. What is your opinion of Protestantism (I'm not necesarily bashing anyone, and I'm not necesarily not bashing anyone. its just a question.) Peace and God Bless, Willguy
