Instead of Banning Halloween? why dont they just teach them the The True Meaning of it? like What the Church Used to do I think its called "Hallows Eve" where they'd have a celebration amoung Saints or something I dunno if its called that, but Isn't that what the Church used to do?

[quote name='Balthazor' date='Oct 27 2004, 04:25 PM'] I am not a huge Halloween Fan, but two years ago I spent Halloween, All saints and All Souls Day in Krakow, Poland....

It was an incredibly moving experience. While the polish really do not celebrate Halloween much..they really celebrate all Saints Day on the first of November...

The whole city shut down, not only that but the holiday is so special that the trams and buses have different routes for that day to accomodate all the people who are going to the cemetary.

Naturally I went to the cemetary, Krakow has a very, large very, famous cemetary called Rakowicki cemetarz........it was soooo beautiful I was stunned at the atmosphere. It was dark and there were thousands and thousands of candles on all the graves,....and in the grey and wet of a November dusk there was a profusion of flowers on every single grave. No one was forgotten on that night, evrywhere there was soft candle light shining through, red, yellow, green and blue glass.

This is very holy and solemn time of year for families to remember and pray, and remember loved ones and ancestry. Something like 98% of the population goes out and visits graves that day....it is just amazing really.

I suppose that while I like Halloween, I like all Saints and All Souls day more. On that cold dreary eve seeing all those people, hearing mass, feeling the memories and prayers that hung so thickly in the air that day just reminded me that we Christians are people, not of death and demons, as Halloween has become, but the people of the resurrection and of hope.

If anyone wants to look here is a website about it...although the pictures really don't do it justice at all. You really have to be there to capture the moment.

Peace, may God bless you all,

That's the Catholic way to spend those days. That's how a Catholic Culture celebrates.

I know I was in Heaven on earth in Poland.....everyone was Catholic!!!
it was great. I really wish that people here in the States would have kept the trations of all Saints Day and All SOuls day alive.....
It was such a nice change from the normal, super secularist holidays in the States. Over there it is a national holiday...you get off work and school for it.

If you ever get the chance to go I highly reccommend it.

God Bless,
Balthazor
