As an extremely lame phatmasser, I take offense at being grouped with the Halloween-haters. <_<
Halloween isn't about paganism or devil worship anymore, it's just a kid's holiday to dress up, have fun, and get a sugar rush from candy. RELAX!
Truth. Halloween is spin. Enjoy it.
I don't like Halloween or horror movies or ghost stories because it encourages intrigue & fosters curiosity in the devil.
Curiosity in the devil is a good thing; as long as the curiosity uncovers truth.

And Halloween is one of the most fun holidays ever! Candy, autumn, scaring people, ghosts... what could be better? It's light hearted, happy, and there's candy. It speaks for itself.

The typical American curiosity in the devil is NOT healthy. It is along the same lines as curiosity in black magic, etc.

EXAMPLES:
horoscopes, ouija boards, superstitions, tarot card readers, horror movies, haunted houses, just to name a few

Most people think it's "harmless."

As someone who has been addicted to many, many sinful things that were on the wide & easy path to hell, I'll be the first in line to tell you that those things are not harmless. They try 'em out, and then they're hooked. Like porn, premarital sex, and drugs. It's all one big pandora's box.

Come on, that's what it does to the majority of American teenagers these days. Probably not to the majority of phatmassers, but still.

That's like saying music doesn't influence how kids act.
But the original concept of Halloween has been lost over the years. now it's a time for kids to dress up, trick-or-treat, and have fun.

That's what I meant by "as long as the curiosity uncovers truth." If they look into him in the right fashion (how he is a threat, ect) then it's good. But if they look into him in the way you described, he'll be able to work his lies. So you're right; good curiosity doesn't seem to be the popular choice.

I trick or treated every year since I was 6 until 12. I never once was interested in anything "dark" during that time. It was horror movies when I got older that got me interested in...horror movies. Nothing more. The darkest it got for me as a kid was watching "The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown".
OK, Im in college in Atchison, KS and im from St. Louis, MO. Where i come from, the kids have to tell a joke if they want to get candy. When i was a kid, we'd seriously ponder over what joke we'd tell for at least two weeks before halloween. We had to be sure that no other kid in the whole neighborhood had the same joke we had. It was a serious pride issue if some mom that was givin out candy knew the answer to your joke. We'd even have some backup jokes just in case someone knew the answer. WE HAD TO WORK FOR OUR CANDY!!!!! Its shameful that no one round here (atchison) has ever heard of this concept!

with my angry face on,

-Joe
We do that here, too!!!!!

A pumpkin story:
"What is like to be a Christian saint?" "It is like being a Halloween pumpkin. God picks you from the field, brings you in, and washes all the dirt off you. Then he cuts off the top and scoops out the yucky stuff. He removes the pulp of impurity and injustice and seeds of doubt, hate, and greed. Then He carves you a new smiling face and puts His light of holiness inside you to shine for the entire world to see."

Didn't Halloween have a pagan origen.
Yes it does.
Did the Catholic Church order a remake of the festival?
Yes, that's the reason for the name (All Hallows Eve).

Now some of you may see it as a bad thing but everything can be seen as something bad. Give someone a string and you can't imagine the millions of good/bad things he can do with it.

Over the years our church choir's Haunted House raised thousands for charity and taught many people how to have a good safe time and work had to help others at the same time. We had 4 generations of families involved for 10 years. Halloween was a favorite holiday!!
