Well...

We went to mass and met my sponsor (Sursum Corda) and Dan (Lounge Daddy). When we went up to recieve communion, Fr. Don invited us up first. Teresa went up ahead of me. Everyone else waited in silence in their pews. My first thought when I saw the one piece of consencrated bread on the plate was "Wow. That is a pretty big piece. Think you could have made it any bigger Father?" But I then recieved our Lord under both species, and then we sat down and everyone else got up to recieve.

It's hard to contemplate sometimes. That we are in reality recieving the body, blood, soul, and divinity of Jesus Christ.

While we are all called to this act every Sunday, and even every day, I worry that if we aren't careful we will lose the signifigance of what is happening and it can become routine. I'm still in awe about what I just participated in. I hope every Sunday will always bring the same awe, and that my relationship with God will only continue to grow deeper.

It was so incredibly awesome to be a witness to their First Communions...I'm sorry that I was a crying buffoon...but I was just so happy for you both.

Don't feel bad; I'd have been crying too had I been there. :)

God bless,

Bro and Mrs. Adam,

Sorry I've been away and missed your journey. You two must have been on a fast track. Why were you not received at Easter? Not that you were lacking in your Catholic education!

Did Mom come to share your joy? Did your Baptist friend come to Mass with you today? How are they taking this?

Did you ever read The Spirit of Catholicism? (That's a tuff one.) Born Fundamentalist, Born Again Protestant ?

I'm full of questions, and full of excitement.

I cried at my First Communion. No, I didn't. I bawled like a baby for hours.

Playing in the background is Beethoven's Ode to Joy, in your honor.

Lawdy, Lawdy, Hallelujah! Congratulations! The angels and saints are marching and playing those harps and tambourines!

JMJ Jay Damien (Likos)

Trust me, that can happen, but only if you don't realize the full truth of what's going on.

I think the best way is to think of what it truly is. Recall that you are a part of the Church, the Bride of Christ, and that Mass is a reconsummation Divine Marriage...start to see how everything hinges on how Christ, God and Man, came to save and marry us (and believe me, everything hinges on it), and you will desire to receive Christ with a love and longing similar to that you experience when you want to reconsummate your own marriage vows, but made perfect on a much higher plane...you will kneel in Adoration longing to receive Our Lord in that way, and you will carry His presence everywhere, as I said to Teresa yesterday, like a living monstrance...

Hi Likos,
Why were you not received at Easter?  Not that you were lacking in your Catholic education!
That's just it, we are on a fast track. As you know RCIA is not one size fits all even though that is what they tried to turn it into. The quality of education is just far too poor. Teresa took a college Catholic theology exam without taking the college class and aced it with a 91. Included Greek and Latin. And Teresa hasn't done half the reading I have. We were ready to be members and we didn't want to start over again in a new parish in Steubenville.
Did Mom come to share your joy?  Did your Baptist friend come to Mass with you today?  How are they taking this?
In spirit, my mom shared in the joy. Our baptist friends reacted the same way my Lutheran friends did when i became Baptist- they just ignored it.
Did you ever read The Spirit of Catholicism?  (That's a tuff one.)  Born Fundamentalist, Born Again Protestant ?
Those are two of the earlier books I've read. I've now got over 200 Catholic books that I've studied and looked at including the GIRM and Code of Canon Law. The Spirit of Catholicism is an excellent book. If you need it back I can always send it back, or it may eventually be passed on to another Catholic-to-be one day. Let me know. My favorite of all the books I use though has to be Liturgy of the Hours.
I cried at my First Communion.
I didn't cry, but inside I was completely overwhelmed. It was amazing. I'm not too good at showing emotions on the outside :)
Playing in the background is Beethoven's Ode to Joy, in your honor.
Couldn't have picked a better one myself :)

Thank you for being a friend on this journey with us Likos :)
