I don't think Stubie will reject you for a C in Physics, maybe a C or D in theo would be harder to explain. A "W" on a transcript can look pretty bad. But if it is that hard drop it.

Why does a "W" look worse than a D or an F (most likely what my grades will be)?

Why does a "W" look bad at all?

Are you sure you would get a "W"? I know you're in a different country, at a different school, but the deadlines have seemed pretty liberal at most schools I've looked at(in my country, and at some in northern Michigan)... I.e., if I dropped a half course by November, it wouldn't show up at all.

I would suggest talking to an academic counsellor, then... sometimes, the money situation has very little to do with the transcript situation.

Like Western(I know, I know, different school, again, different country) lets people drop until shortly after midterms... that way, if you know you can't possibly do well, then it still doesn't count against you.

At any rate, really, like others have said, a single W really, honestly, won't hurt you. Heck, it doesn't even count against med school applications. It looks far better than a grade that's barely passing.

So sad that this is a topic I've looked into. A lot.

WHAT DOES A 'W' MEAN ON MY TRANSCRIPT?

Listed each semester under "Dates to Observe" you will find a deadline for the "last day to drop a full semester course with a ‘W’ instead of a 'F'" (please consult the “Dates to Observe” section of the appropriate semester's Schedule of Classes book or the Calendar from the Office of the Registar for the specific date for a semester).

What does the 'W' mean? The ‘W’ simply indicates that a course has been dropped between the 4th and 10th week of the semester. A course that has been dropped with a ‘W’ is not used in the GPA calculation. Be cautious of the total number of 'W's' on your transcipt - it could be a concern to a potential employer or graduate school.

For students who are receiving some type of financial aid, if the drop results in less than full-time (12 hours), it could impact the amount of aid received. Please contact the Financial Aid Office if you have any questions in regards to the impact of dropping courses. Medical and/or auto insurance companies may also require you to have full-time status to remain on parents coverage...check with insurance company before dropping below full-time.
