I wish we lived in a utopian Catholic society where any Roman Catholic over the age of 8 would be fluent in latin. :)

I have never gone to one, but want to.
I think I'll understand some of it. I know Portuguese which is close to Latin. Anyway, they usually have a missal w/ translations.

Anyways, here's where you can find a Latin Mass in your area approved by the Bishop.

Sweet. :)

So you're coming on the 19th not the 15th? Thats a Friday and Matt will be working till 7 so I guess you really will only have women and children to help... on the upside I will be able to leave Adrienne with him and help move all of your non-heavy stuff. :)

Congrats, Bro Adam. It gets easier to follow after a short time. It took me 3 or 4 times, but now its second nature. MOre and more diocese are allowing it every year. Hopefully, in the very near future, Rome will require each diocese to make it available and within reasonable driving distance for everyone. I'm getting tired of driving an hour and a half to Mass every Sunday.

Sanctus, Sanctus, Sanctus
Dominus Deus sabbaoth.
Pleni sunt caeli et terra gloria Tua
Hosanna in excelsis
Benedictus qui venit in nomine Domini.
Hosanna in excelsis.

(hsdaughter and I are learning Latin. :) ) We sing this around the house to the melody of our parish's English version.

Watch a Mass on EWTN. They sing the Latin version. It might help. ;)

They sang that at Mass this morning. :)

I like Latin so much better. The English translation is horrible! If you wanna look at the Gloria alone, I (who understand very little Latin) can show a place or two where an entire phrase is skipped. "Qui tollis peccata mundi, suscipe deprecationem nostram."

there's a new translation in the works, but I haven't heard much about it recently. I had a look at it on another forum, and it looked like a WAY better translation. Nevertheless, I'm a bit out of the loop.

That was a problem in the old ICEL but they restructured the translating commision (called ICEL) and the new commission seems way superior. Take heart...our Church is guided by the Holy Spirit. ;) It's just a question of time now.
