The following message is NOT sarcasam :

Poor Matt. Seriously. I hope that guy has a support network somewhere. It must be hard living in his skin. With the MTV/Lifeteen combo. I've felt his pain, but not on national tv.

Talk is Cheap.

If I was on a show and wasn't Christian, having someone one a show tell me that I am degraded for having something in my body (which I can't take out anytime soon) would only make me feel like poo.

I don't like breast implants, but there are better ways of dealing with that situation than preaching. Lack of social skills on the part of Matt.

If I had my way on MTV...I would just win the game, have a good time, act like a Christian and keep my mouth shut.

That way I don't NEED to tell people that I am Christian, they will see and they will know because they will SEE the difference for themselves. No one likes a preacher, and acting like one on MTV only gives people another reason to proliferate stupid stereotypes about Catholics being judgemental, bigoted and unforgiving.

'People get implants so that they can attract men', maybe the truth, but it isn't a forgiving statement, it also denies the very diverse and personally sensitive human experience.

That's why I like the Catholic faith. It doesn't need to be loud, preachy or showy. A humbly lived life speaks for itself.

Preach all the time, and if you must THEN use words.

Sometimes being a Christian is speaking up too. You can take Matt's words as affirmation for all the women who don't have big breasts and struggle against society's message that they are 'less' of a woman and less attractive to males. That's a message that is heard more often then Matt's and is offensive to many more women.

We have to remember too (and it's already been said) that all "reality" shows edit their taping. So we may not be getting the whole picture of what was said (about the whole breast implant thing).

You know what show I really don't like? Extreme Makeover. It seems like every single girl that goes on that show gets her breasts done. It seems like most of all the people that go on the show really need therapy to feel better about themselves, not plastic surgery. You know what I mean? If your huge nose has held you back your whole life, isn't it more that there's something wrong with you cuz you couldn't get past the fact that you have a huge nose?

It seems like more and more people want to be cookie cutter stereotypes of someone else. They don't want to be themselves. I think having a bigger nose or a wider smile or whatever adds character to your face. Like all the starlets nowadays all have the same face and the same body. I like Fran Drescher because she breaks the norm.

And don't even get me started on older people getting face lifts.

Honestly, I think there's enough talk in society. Enough noise.

Noise and Excess Sensation is the theology of television, and like Sr. Mary-Lynn said, 'The empty can makes the most noise'. So when people witness silence and action, it's a lot more rare and difficult to ignore.

Of course MTV edits out things. That's the reality of television, but I can only go by what I saw...I think there is a much better way of telling the truth to people without assuming the personal motives of people's actions. Why not talk about the negatives of a society which proliferates the need to augment natural beauty? Why not discuss our culture's commodification of intangible values? Let's get to the root of the matter...

Because the person who had breast implants would take it personally anyway, wouldn't they?

Not only does MTV edit . . . they slice and dice and put it in a Word Processor and get it all mushy and make the point THEY want to make.

Here's something to think about. If Matt wasn't a Christian and had said the same thing. Or if a "natural" girl had said the same thing, would she be judgemental and preachy?

Of course only Religious People are intolerant. We're always trying to shove our ideas down people's throats. Good Secular People like MTV and its advertisers would NEVER try to preach to us! The Horror!

(BLAZEr pulls his skirt up to his knees and jumps up on a chair screaming wildly . . . wondering "Why am I wearing a skirt?")

Matt doesn't lack social skills. It takes ALOT of guts to say what he said, and i'm sure he knew he would step on some toes, but as a Catholic, no matter what you say, you'll offend someone. "I did it for the right reasons" is BS.

I think it was a slap to her face because what Matt said was true. He doesn't go about trying to pretend to be something he isn't. He's not saying it in malice. He's stating the truth which society has blurred for that young lady. If he doesn't say it, who will? Love hurts and Matt is taking the Bull by the horns!

Go MATT!!!! B)

I don't think the girl would necessarily take it personally, and I do think it's a lack of social skills. I am Catholic, and I almost never offend anyone...I who almost NEVER shy away from debate..with the most liberal and the most fundamentalist. I have only been called preachy once...and that's because the girl was too closed minded to deal with ANYTHING different...she called gay people the 'f' word...and thought this was acceptable behaviour.

It's the difference between...

telling someone with body odour, "people who smell are nasty and dirty and don't take a bath & no one wants to be around them"

and saying...

Here, I bought you a bath and body works kit! It smells so great...I just LOVE a gal who wears it....blah blah....

www.etiquettegrrls.com

they're all about this kind of stuff, practicing superb social skills... AND they're Catholic.

How does MTV preach to me? I can change the channel if I want to. I CAN'T however remove myself from the presence of a preacher/friend unless I rudely say...stop preaching leave me the heck alone! & that would be bad form.

People DO get offended when you talk how abortion is murder.......probably b/c they've had one. Should we not say anything b/c it would be "bad form"?

They get offended when talking about gay marriages, contraception, pre-marital sex, 1000 more things and in this case, the implants. They are trying to "feel good" about themselves, feel more confident, etc, when Jesus Himself came to fill that void. To tell someone that all they need is Jesus Christ and invite them to celebrate Mass with you shouldn't offend anyone. But it does. Why? Maybe because they like the darkness. Maybe because we actually care about them and we're not trying to pretend nothing is wrong like putting some "bandaid" to fix a huge void in thier life.

Remember, it's not about saying it rudely, or tacky, but Truthfully and with love and charity. It shouldn't be sugarcoated. And that is what Matt did. So we must Pray for Matt.

With the body odor however, yeah, i would sugarcoat it though....... ;)
