DAF
That book is the work of the Devil. We understand that it's fiction, but that author actually believes alot of the trash that he propogates. I suggest that if you care about your immortal soul, you burn it. cmotherofpirl
i'm only a quarter of a way through it, but so far it's great. i heard it was controversial, and i understand why. but IT'S FICTION, so don't worry, i won't be led astray by any anti-catholic lies.
Not only is it fiction, but all its support is as well.
Proud2BCatholic139
Still even if it is fiction and you think it won't corrupt you, the devil has his ways.
Sarah_JC
get a good guide, if you're going to read it. A Catholic one that explains where it goes wrong ( everywhere, lol) and why. edit: And pray before reading it. That will help too. toledo_jesus
ick, why are you doing that to yourself? I read the first chapter and couldn't get through it. Boring style...cliche... If you want to read something that goes against catholicism, read Milton or something...
matt_in_ohio
I actually read the book, and then attended a lecture put on by a renowned professor at John Carroll University. The guys name is Dr. John Kelly, and the lecture I attended was at Kent State University in early October. In a very non-confrontation style, he explained what the book got both right and wrong. I thought it was an excellent talk, and I took pretty good notes, which I have passed on to several people in my church who couldn't attend. I'd be happy to repost them here, but there's a least four pages of stuff, and I don't want to make such a long post without permission. So let me know. annie
You know,it was poorly written (the style) and a bit over dramatic. The premise of the story offended me. My sis in law (HEY Matt---she is a Kent State Grad and writes for the Toledo Blade) said "relax it is FICTION and a good story".. Well, how about I write a fictional story about, let's see, your mother being a closet child beater, and that in college she was a lesbian, and maybe that she had you out of wedlock, and maybe that your father was a molester, and molested you when you were little, and... oh-- would that be offensive? Hey-- it's just a FICTIONAL story---not true, but a real page-turner..... and it would offend LESS people in the world than the DaVinci Code could----

djc08
I read it and enjoyed it. I also read The Ilumaati and enjoyed it too. I know that it is anti-Catholic but that doesn't mean I shouldn't read it. Luther's 95 Theses are anti-Catholic and I read those. I think it made me a little more deeper in my faith becasue some of the stuff in it I looked up and learned more about and why it was wrong and what the truth was. I know that people have probably read it and it seriously shook their faith and that they maybe even stopped going to church and believing. What gets me is so many Protestants are always asking me if it hurt my faith and I say "no if anything it strengthened it" Then I ask them if it caused them in problems and they say "well it doesn't apply to me only Catholics." I go "Did you actually read the book because I was pretty sure even you all believed Jesus wasn't married to Mary Magdalene and that Jesus didn't have brothers?" They always look at me confused
matt_in_ohio
I just wanted to add that I read the book because I had heard the controversy, and wanted to judge the book for myself. I then attended the lectures I mentioned before for the very same reason. I found that I actually learned things about my faith that I may not have known without having gone through this exercise. Of course I am the type of person who wants to judge thing for myself; I read the Koran after September 11th to see what Islam believed, etc. But I consider myself pretty strong in my faith, and an approach like mine my not be appropriate for everyone. Just my $0.02.
StMichael
To invest money in a book that slanders your religion makes little sense. To invest money to help it get to the big screen, makes little sense. To invest time reading such tripe and then more attending seminars or talks about it, makes no sense at all. This is one book that can be judged by its cover and any Catholic who involves themselves in this should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. DAF
Now, I think that reading it might be a god thing if you intend to learn why it's wrong, but reading it for literary pleasure or to accept it as truth is treading on dangerous waters. I read it and found it tobe total garbage, and, call me close-minded, but i don't see how somebody can be a faithful Catholic and view it as something otherwise. I also read Angels and Demons, which was of a little better quality, and a it less anti-catholic, but it still had alot of lies that i think people need to be aware of. that's my 2 cents.
