i feel like im taking crzy pills

I was sitting in the 9 AM Mass this morning, like almost every other Sunday morning, and I became totally peeved.

First, they asked nicely that everyone turn off their cell phones, and during Mass, at least three phones went off. <_< Why are people so inconsiderate? I at least silence mine...

Second, there was an announcement after the homily about out parish's finance update. And the speaker, before he even began, said that there were people upset that they talked about this during Mass. And then he continued to talk. The restless children do not care about much money the church has and needs!!

Then, there was a speaker about the Jubilee celebreation for our chuch. And the event doesn't even take place until June! He talks at almost every 9 AM Mass! I am so fed up with it.

Lastly, there was also a speaker about poposition 71 or whatever, and talked for almost 10 minutes why we, as Catholics, need to be informed. I agree that we need to know about it, but almost 30% of the people in Mass are not old enough to vote. They could have just put a flyer in the thing that they hand out as you walk out of Mass (I am having a brain fluffy air extraction and do not remember what they are called).

Well, maybe it was just me not having such a good day, but it just seemed how they were talking about things that were important to some people, but I thought Mass wasn't exactly the best place to talk about it.

Maybe I just needed to vent.. but any thoughts or comments? Last time I checked, Mass was a celebration of Jesus, not a time to tell everyone the news and events. Go read a paper if you want those! Jeeze...

The mass that I participated in the last two weekends also went on for an extra hour, maybe this is something that we have to get used to. At the same time, Mass should be a prayer and not bulliten board. I wish that they would do all these announcements before mass.

Before mass, I agree. There shouldn't be big announcements before mass. But I am all for announcements after mass. Most parishes (not all) have a lot of inactive people. They wouldn't know how things in the parish are going.
As for people talking about making an informed decisions with voting and stuff, I believe thats good too. No, it doesn't need to be said to the people that already know. But we can't ignore those who need to hear it.

anyways. My 2 cents.

The proper place for any brief announcements by someone other than the priest is after Communion.

Maybe the priestsa are frusatrated because during the homily is the only time he thinks he can get anybodys attention.

I don't know I get annoyed with all of those announcements after communion and not the general ones that take like a minute and no one really listens to anyway but with the speakers that stand up there for 20 minutes talking about a campaign to raise thousands of dollars for yet ANOTHER project to expand our school. they push people to give huge sacrifices and take away from their mass. they make everyone fill out a card and all of this other stuff. fine, come in every once in a while but not every week!! they've already bought out the other church that they want to use so why dont they leave us be!! i mean, i never express this to anyone there but it doest irritate me too. what i have to constantly tell myself so that i do not become worked up (like i just did) is that a lot of the people there are not members of the school that could get information elsewhere and a lot of them wont read the bulletin. i understand that its for the good of the parish but i also agree that we all need to find a better way to make these big announcements!! sigh.... anyway lol

just my 2 cents.... or half dollar whatever lol

U should be glad that ur Mass goes on for longer. We sometimes get this priest how has had a nervous breakdown and he forgets to do parts of the Mass. He walks off in the middle of the Our Father and only says half of it, his Homily never makes sens and he spends so much time rambling on during it, he decides that hell rush the Concecration and simply "goes through the motions" i refuse to take Communion when he says Mass because he basically makes a mockery of it. so people, be thankfull for a long Mass, at least you get a full Mass

Well, we once had a priest that made Mass last for only about 45 minutes... there was every part of the Mass.. I just can't figure out how he made it short...

I mean, it doens't bother me that the Mass is longer, but it just upsets me because it goes on because of things that don't really concern me or anyone under 18, which is a lot of people because the 9AM Mass is like the "family" Mass. I love when they have baptisms at Mass and things like that, but speakers that take up as long as 15 minutes begin to irritate me.

yeah, i know what u mean, but u have to remember that there are people there who do want to hear about these things, and if it is the interst of some people, the priest should announce it. i know it can get a bit annoying, i mean, why cant they put it in the parish Bulliten and then anyone who wants to read it, can. thats what happens in our parish

What peeves me sometimes is how sometimes the people giving the readings just drone. No expression in their reading at all (Usually when I read something out, I read as though i'm trying to "act it out"). I tend to find myself staring absent mindedly at the paper (with the readings on it) in front of me.
I think i might sign up to be a reader next chance I get.

That kinda bugged me until I became a lector. I was told that when a person is lectoring they are "proclaiming" the word, not reading it. :) As long as the person doesn't use a monotone I'm fine! ^_^

Our announcements are after mass and only last a couple minutes. Everyone takes the bulletins after mass and that has the "big' info in it. We don't really have problems with people leaving early, we are pretty blessed on that account! :)
