justfran
Scenario: say I actually did vote a pro-choice party (knowing about Church teaching on abortion - but I'm not baptised yet) which gets into power. And so, in chronological order: 1. I realise what I've done, become an unwavering (as in not even THINKING about returning the the old ways) pro-life supporter for the rest of eternity 2. I then get an official baptism (not a baptism by blood or desire) some time during this. This means that I would be completely absolved of all my sins, including the sin of allowing all past abortions to happen. 3. througout the next day, throughout the entire country, 4000 abortions take place. Exactly the same people are in power (these are the people I voted in at the election), no policies have been changed. 4. At the end of the day, I die without having deliberately/knowingly committed any sins from the moment of my baptism onwards. Do I still get condemned for every single one of those 4000 lives lost, because I had helped to allow all of it to happen at the previous election, despite the fact that I have now changed my ways (so I don't allow it anymore) and got baptised the day before? I didn't actually vote for a pro-choice party, I tried talking Dad into letting me vote for a pro-life party in his place (he voted for a party which I'm pretty sure hasn't done much regarding abortion, so I'm getting the feeling that it's pro-choice), but I then backed off, not entirely sure whether taking the paper out of his hand would be the right thing to do - that would be taking away his right to vote, and he clearly wanted to have his own say. I'm sure he didn't vote for that party *because* it was pro-choice - he is pro-choice but is not outspoken at all on his stance. People tell me I haven't sinned, but I still doubt this as I still think i could have some something more to persuade my dad, and I am asking this as a "What If..." question. BLAZEr
Okay according to your 'scenario' you would not be morally culpable for the effects that your past sins had after your conversion. It's kind of a wierd scenario to be honest. All in all, my advice is 1. Don't vote for pro-abortion poltical parties, and 2. Go to Confession often, and 3. Pray, Hope, and Don't Worry
