Guest Aluigi
well, i could probably try to use that to defend consubstantiation, but i've taken the protestant position of umm.. nonsubstantiation (is that a word? lol) so i donno how i could use levit... StColette
the verse I'm referring to is Lv 3:17 it talks about not drinking blood, which many Protestants use this as an argument to say that Communion does not have the real presence of the Body and Blood of Christ because it would be going against the word of God in Lv. Benedict
When confronted with Leviticus 3, do you respond with the proof-text rebuttal or another method?
phatcatholic
When confronted with Leviticus 3, do you respond with the proof-text rebuttal or another method?
i go w/ the ol proof text rebuttal. there are verses in the NT (i don't have them readily available........colette, i know u got my back ) about how we are to no longer refrain from the meat or blood of animals. it is also important to note that Jesus makes anew the old covenant edict to avoid consuming animal blood by giving us his own blood to drink. in the OT it was thought that to drink the blood of an animal was to take on his life force, the most precious part of the animal. so, it was selfish to take this for oneself instead of giving it to God. w/ the new covenant of Jesus Christ, he gives us his own blood, the life force of all things, to take for ourselves and to truly give us life.
