smeagol
i was thinking this morning what if men got pregnant instead of women? no, i'm not talking about this but i was thinking about the feminist revolution, in which women claimed that abortion gave them 'sexual freedom' , that abortion liberated them because THEY were the ones who could decide if they wanted to be pregnant or not (by getting an abortion if they were pregnant)... now, i'll agree with you that this argument doenst stand up because of the question "at what cost?" innocent lives aren't worth freedom (and in this case freedom is vague anyway) but what if the tables were turned (but we were still in a somewhat patriarchal society) ? i think that men would overwhelmingly support abortion, and it wouldnt be as big of an issue. i know there would still be people (many men too) who'd be opposed to abortion in this what-if society. just a random thought of mine... i wonder what you think.
This is not an issue of which sex carries the child, but the protection of the creation of the child. From the Book of Jeremiah: "Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you, before you were born I dedicated you". Furthermore: Psalm 127:3-5 - children are a gift of favor from God and blessed is a full quiver. We must be open to God's gift of life. End of story. Thy Geekdom Come
This also isn't just a question of the child's life (though that is primary), it is also a question of the abuse of sex, as Christopher West points out.
CreepyCrawler
If both were pregnant: I think that women couldn't complain about how big of a burden it is to be pregnant because it wouldn't only be "my body, my choice." If it were only men who would get pregnant: no one would blame the dad for being pregnant call him a silly sally who ruined his life.
Ash Wednesday
Heheh. Interesting discussion. I can't stand those annoying slogans: "If men got pregnant, abortion would be a sacrament." If men got pregnant, perhaps it would no longer exclusively be a "feminist" issue. But it shouldn't be, anyway. That's a myth perpetuated by "feminist" whiners that buy into the same old spoonfed liberal crizzap. If men are in opposition to abortion because they want "control" over women, then they are missing the point. It has nothing to do with "control" over women. Like St. Michael rightly said, the issue is human life.

FutureSoror
How does making abortion illegal controll women anyway?
It would probably free many of them from a lot of psycological suffering.
that'd be Junior, and it was quite hysterical! i'm glad God created me so that i don't become pregnant. i respect the female gender so much for that reason. BurkeFan
The only way one could possibly say that it would make a difference (just relating to opposition, conflict in society, not on right or wrong at all) is if there were absolutely no women who opposed abortion. This argument, that if men got pregnant, abortion would be exalted in society, assumes that only men oppose abortion and that every single woman adores it, as some abortion proponents claim. BeenaBobba
I suspect that some men would have abortions. After all, the real issue behind abortion is denying life to human beings. I hate to say it, but it seems that a lot of people (both men and women) enjoy free sex. Because they enjoy free sex, they tend to dislike the consequences that stem from free sex. Abortion is the easy way out, and many of them take it. Whether men or women carry children inside them probably wouldn't make much of a difference if the preborn child isn't even seen as a human being to begin with. Tony
for all I know it could be worse.. I mean there has to be a reason only God made females have kids, that could be why
